EARLY ACCESS done RIGHT! Roguelike Lovers can buy this without hesitation. Game is/has: +tough as nails (at least for a not so hardcore gamer) +always fair (losing is your own fault, even when it doesn't seem like it) +a variety of different mutants to play with +a nice pixelish artstyle +very motivating +a broad range of different weapons
What could be better/should be fixed: -environments are a bit boring, more details would please the players eye -number of variety of mutations is too low (every levelup you can select a modifier such as running faster or gaining life for killing enemies), -and few of them are good/interesting (example for good number of mutations -> binding of isaac)
All in all, the game is well worth its asking price with more to come as it updates. ( ++++regular big updates++++)
Let's start with gameplay. The game is a twinstick rougelike shootem up, meaning that it uses very fast paced and exciting gunplay in combonation with a randomly generated map and enemy placement. This makes the game very hard at points due to the design choices made by the devs, but never feels really unfair when you die, as it is mostly your fault if you mess up. Now, while the gameplay may be pretty fair when it comes down to it, the game is still in early access, and there are a lot of wepons and choices made by the devs that still need rebalancing. That brings me to a point about the gameplay that could make or break it for someone, it is really hard sometimes. In fact, it is actually impossible at to win at some points just due to being given a "Bad Hand". This is mainly because of the difficulty progression and rougelike aspects tied to the game, but like I said, there are people out there that would find it completely unacceptable to be killed by mainly RNG. This brings me to a another point, there is a 30fps lock on the game. This isn't a really big deal to a lot of people who get into it, but it can be a bit of an annoyance to many people who play games at 60fps and above.
Im not really gonna go into the music a ton due to the fact that everyone has differing opinions, but I will say that it is some of the best music that has ever been made for a game, and that it complements the scenery and tone very well...
I guess in conclusion, the game has a very large amount of potential for when it fully releases, and is definitely worth it if you're looking for something pretty tough and fast paced. It has a variety of characters and wepons to use, and the devs update the game every week with something new. It is still in early access, but it seems that the creators intend to finish it fully.
Although, if you're looking for something a bit more mellow in terms of the speed, I would recommend The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. It retains a lot of the rougelike elements of this game, and improves apon a lot of stuff on what other rougelikes fail at. Plus it's a fully released game...
