Nuclear Throne

Robot
Robot is by far my favorite character, but as I've been getting better at the game, I've branched out to other characters to see what they have to offer. What I've realized is that Robot, while still my favorite character, is underwhelming in two areas: visually and mechanically.

Visually, his passive ability is non-existant. If a player was not told what his passive was, they would not likely even know it was there. If there was a visual indicator that showed the player when an "advanced" weapon was spawned, it would be easier to know that the ability was actually functioning. Granted, if you know what area that each weapon can spawn in, you would know when you got an advanced weapon. However, I would wager that most players have not committed this knowledge to memory. A simple visual indication for when an advanced weapon spawns would make Robot runs a little more exciting. Actually seeing your abilities function adds to the enjoyability of a character.

Mechanically, Robot is ok. For the most part. However, his ultra mutations are pretty mediocre. His A ultra is mostly useless in many cases. If you have a good loadout that you're happy with by the time you ultra mutate, you're likely already sufficiently equipped to take on the throne/loop. His B ultra is... ok, and can be useful inproviding ammo and noms if you have good weapons, though the ability to spawn IDPD chests is a little weird. Most mutations do not come with such a risk, and Robots ultra B isn't good enough to take on an additional risk. Additionally, NIETHER ultra does anything in terms of Robots offensiveness or general damage output, whereas most other characters have some form of ultra that helps deal more damage.

I think Robots Ultra B needs some kind of buff, even if it's just the removal of the IDPD chest spawn chance. And if that chance is to remain, at leat give him the chance to spawn the OTHER types of chests as well (Big red chests and cursed big chests). In regards to his A ultra, I think it should be replaced entirely with something that is more directly offenively focused. Here are a few ideas I've had. Not that I think any of them are "the best idea." They're mostly just to explore some options.

Organicide - all non-robotic enemies have less health.

Energy Overload - Energy weapons deal more damage or have some other kind of DPS upgrade that isn't a straight damage buff..

Hive Mind - Robotic enemies become allies or no longer target/aggro you.

Shrapnel Crumbs - A circle of shots fire in all directions whenever you eat a gun.

There used to be tips that told you what button the active was and what it did - can't imagine why they removed it.

I don't think the visual part is necessary, and Organicide is too much like scarier face, as well as Energy Overload being straight-up laser brain.
That said most of this thread seems about right.

Tutorial?
Robot's passive is terrible. You get the same effect from visiting the pizza sewers. It needs a +1 or 2 buff.

robot is cutest character tho.
even though he is really evil.

Personally, I would really enjoy a visual that is associated with his passive. It could make for some cool moments. You open a chest and *whooosh!* an advanced weapon!

The thing is, I wouldn't know, there's nothing that tells me as a player that I just recieved an advanced weapon. In either case, though, I agree. Getting a laser pistol in 7-2 while robot is face-palm territory.

First idea is a straight downgrade to Scarier face and way too specific.

Second is a weapon upgrade which not only limits your choice but is too simillar to Laser Brain.

Hive Mind is weird, we don't know if loops will stay as they are now so no comment on that.

Last one seems alright I guess?

Yeah, they're mostly just some brainstorms that take into account a greater focus on offense and are focused on the flavor of the character. Just to get the ball rolling on some ideas, really.
I think that the main problem with robot is that his abilities are only worthwhile in the early game.

Higher Tech Weapons - Useless after Loop.
HP/Ammo for a weapon - Its too slow of a process to be very efficient.

His ultras need to shift some of his usefulness into the late game.

I personally dont really know how I feel about turning Robot into a offensive/defensive character based on his very "supply" focused active and passive. I would have no problem into turning him to the ultimate supply machine who yet lacks offensive and defensive.

I like current Robot. I plan to do more dailies with him sometime soon.
Robot is all survival and early boost.

The problem with this is that there is such a thing as too many supplies. If I'm at full health, and full ammo of every type (which is a totally plausible situation), all the extra noms/drops in the world don't mean anything. The only way to have an ultra that focuses on supply would be if it increases your max ammo and/or health to make all the extra supply drops/noms useful.

Alternately, his supply focus is pretty sufficient as is, and I think an option to go a little more offensive would be useful, as well as an appropriete late game shift for the character. I mean, he is a KILLER FREAKING ROBOT after all...

How about we add a function when eating ammo on full ammo, then? Like a temporary shield.

That sounds okay. Robot shouldn't have in the top half of late games IMO, because his early game is so amazing. A shield when full on ammo would be pretty cool.
Maybe a good ultra would be to make a double of himself for a short time after eating a gun, similar to the Shadow Partner use item in Risk of Rain (where it is basically your shadow doing exactly what you do to double DPS, as opposed to an AI Rebel ally). It would add a risk/reward scenario where you can either eat the weapons for ammo when you are safe like you normally do, or you could run into the open and dive for a weapon to eat and get double DPS to take down the enemies very quickly.

Not sure if you would tank twice as much damage or use up twice as much ammo while you have a double. Maybe it would be a scrappy/rusty double that only does an extra 50% DPS. Just throwing out ideas.
