Space Hulk Review
OK, first a disclaimer, this is the first review I have written. Not first video game review first review EVER. So I haven't reviewed a fridge, a bacon sandwich or a book on the Easter bunny.
To begin, some things I like about this game
The tutorial. Not only is any kind of tutorial great, especially for games like this. But an actual good one? Priceless. The tutorial in this game got me up to speed on how to play this game and introduced new mechanics well.
Sound/Music. Now I must confess I am a GW fan boy but in my opinion they got the sound effects in this just right. The music is great to boot.
Art direction. Again I believe they have nailed it, Gothic Sci-fi, will skulls all-over.
Things I'm not so keen on
The graphics. This is a small issue but I just wish they were a bit more polished. They are nice, just not amazing.
The meat of it....BBQ Chicken, tastes great but can be messy.
This is a turn based strategy game. In which you carefully move and manage a team of the finest Blood Angel Terminators, to circumvent and vanquish terrible Genestealers, and accomplish various objectives.
It is set in the famous 40K setting from GW. This is a grim future where humanity's once advanced technology is in decline, beset by foes on all sides, no hope, no final victory only a slow and painful decline.
The section of the universe this game focuses on is groups of highly advance indomitable Space Marine Terminators undertaking boarding actions on vast Space hulks. Fending off the lightning fast Genstealer menace (think xenomorph).
Its very much an elite group of butt kicking stone blocks, versus overwhelming deadly, agile, supreme killers.
Now as I have mentioned I am a huge fan of this Universe so I would whole heartedly recommend this game!
Now from a point of view of someone who knows nothing about this 40k nonsense and doesn't know his Bolter from his Las pistol, this game is still worth a look in. Some of may go over your head or seem a bit grim and weird, but I think a good time can still be had with this and you never know it might get you into the geeky miniature painting gaming stuff :)
Buy this if you are a fan, give this a chance if your not and it happens to be on sale.
