Nobody is playing, or multiplayer is bugged
I've been waiting for almost an hour at three different times of a day (every 8 hours or so).I'm trying to get an "always online " game but it's like absolutely nobody was here and i couldn't get a single game.

So is this "always online " mode actually working ?

I really think this game is wonderful and i enjoy it in solo. But, you really need to debug the multiplayer mode and add something like a lobby room (or any other way to see who's online to invite them).

The space hulk community is not a small one, players can be there !

Yes, it's sad, but true. The game is great, well done, and yet nobody plays it (maybe it is because of the price, or the reviews/metacritic score). At least you can't really set up an always online match with the ingame matchmaking system. The only thing you can do is to add some people who play it as friends, and keep asking them if they are in the mood for a game.
Maybe a lobby would help.

It's not the good process for multi. choose "asynchrone game". You can wait and if another player accept your game when your are not in ligne you can play your turn later.

With tchat box in game you can add this player in your friend list in game and invite him for another play...

We use invitation for play... I have 12 firends in my list and I play 30 or 35 games in multi.
I think also you can look for email to invite in "Mutiplayer game" in this forum....

lobbys are the way to go

I think the challenge here is that there are a lot of choices for the player to make and if there aren't a lot of players it's going to be a lot harder finding a game with a specific setup. E.g if you only want to play a certain map, a certain side or both it gets hard to find a match.

Of course random everything is the easiet way to find a match-up, but I agree that a lobby system would at least help give an overview of which games that are available. Such a system would probably take the coders about 3 weeks to make, so it's a significant investment and can be hard to squeeze in there timewise, as they're hard at work already.

@Sentenza : i know we can play asynchronous, but this is so slow and boring. People play like, one turn per day only, in my experience. It's really breaking the immersion and the tension of the game.
But i can agree this is my personal feeling about it.

Anyway, i was talking about the "always online mode" because it exists, but doesn't seem to work. So something has to be done for this mode. Why was it added in a patch in a first place, if it wasn't supposed to be useful ?

@ Zuggi : for my part i had all filters on "random" so this isn't the source of the problem.
Really, it seems bugged in some way, because i don't think i'm the only guy on earth looking for a game here (and since i waited for one hour or so, i think i should have seen some others if they were in a game already and looking for another one).

Anyway, this your game obviously, but from what i could read my concern is far from being the only one in the community about multiplayer. I do think you should think about your priorities and let your coders do something about it.
Maybe i'm really wrong but i can't see how "more options for the banner and a way to customize your space marines" is better than " now you can play against the best opponent : a real one, ayone who's online !"
Palanthis Oct 29, 2013 @ 11:09am
@Sentenza : i've invited you to be a friend ingame, if you're ready to play sometimes.
Vargas78 Oct 29, 2013 @ 2:50pm
bloodbowl had a lobby, and it really helped me get into it as i had friendly live chats with people
devildog77 Oct 29, 2013 @ 3:30pm
yeah just the chat / social aspect would go a long way.

@Palanthis

I'm Ok with that but one game take 2h and more, it's not easy to play in one time... with asynchrone you can stop and continue later.

When you look for another player, if you did'nt use asynchrone game if you are not connected when someone accept your game you loose automaticly.

In asynchrone game you can play your next turn and use tchat box for ask to a meeting time.

And this is why Indie devs need to focus on Single Player. All the people asking for Multiplayer for these Indie games don't understand that it will either be DOA or everybody will stop playing after a few weeks leaving you with a game you can't play. Please Developers, focus on things like Skirmish with AI and Sandbox modes.

well you can play, i have like 10 friends on steam who have the game and i can ask if they want to play some, but it would be so much easier if we could just start it up and play.
It was always like this, you had to wait 15-30-45 mins to get an opponent, and that was on the weekend, it's not about people stopping playing. It's just not enough players for this kind of matchmaking system. And it is only a problem with always online mode, if i start an asynchron game i find an opponent instantly, but i would rather play a match in one run.

Really depends on the type of game you make I'd say

Well no matter what if people are searching for specific matches it limits the options, just didn't in your case. The always online was added so ppl could pick a game mode where they were certain that the game would be played to the end. An Asunch game can be played just the same..but it's up to the players of course.

I'll see what I can do priority wise...for me I want this aspect of the game improved and I also want to add ranking/stats to the mix, but will have to fight for it. iOS has required more effort than anticipated, so most programmer power goes there at the moment.

Can be because the default setting is asynch...so people automatically go for that instead of always online mode. I tried always online and found a match after approx 5 mins, but I agree that it shouldn't take that long anyways. Will test it with a programmer now.

Edit: We tested and found each other instantly, will see if I can get them to change the default setting. For PC/Mac you would usually always for "Always Online", where asynch probably would be prefered by iPad users.
