Linux beta test (NOW LIVE)

Hi all Linux fans,

The Linux Version is now live, please leat us knwo if you're experienceing issues :)

BUG:

We have a bug where data parsing inside the code is locale specific and commas are parsed wrong.

We are working on a fix for this. This would solve the "black screen when starting mission" bugger.

A workaround is to set the locale manually, but bugfix coming up ASAP

Ah, and here I am out of the country until the new year without my linux laptop. Might have to give it a try in a VM and see what happens there.

There's about half a zillion of us who would gladly do beta testing for you (including myself) and obviously we're a good bunch of people when it comes to such things, but few will have a copy of the game as..well, it's not available on our platform.

I would suggest making a post on somewhere like /r/linux_gaming and you'll have more beta testers than you can shake a stick at in no time.

We ran some limited beta test outside of Steam already with this little demo. And now we added the Steam integration + fixed a few things. We cant test Steam outside of Steam :-(

There must be someone who bought it for Windows/Mac and who can run some of the testing before we can do a real release. I hope :-D

At this point though its one of our top priorities to get this one out the door for you Linux guys. I ran Linux on my desktop for years before switching to OSX. So I got a place in my heart for you.

So I bought the game, opeted in the beta and installed it.

Unfortunately clicking "launch game" does nothing, and running from the command line seems to fail with the following error: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/6599435/

Let me know if I can help any further (I am quite proficient with Ubuntu as you'll discover by looking at the groups I belong to :) ).

Thanks Tribaal - interesting error. Could I get you to try to rename the Game_Data to game_Data? Might be as simple as that.

We renamed the binary from Game to game in this build compared to previous builds and it might not have taken into account the data folder

So renaming the folder to game_Data did the trick!

Unfortunately I see a couple of "launch steam overlay" buttons and an error message about not being able to find the steam dll at the expected place.

I played a few turns of the first map, everything seems nice and smooth, except the "first person view" part of the screen that seems pretty blurry, but honestly, I'm not sure if that's intended like that or no :)

Perfect! Except for the Steam error message. Back to the lab there for us.

The should cam view is supposed to be grainy and blurry as if a bad TV reception. So sounds about right :-)

So - game works, steam integration has problems. Thanks!

@Tribaal - could you try a thing? Copy the libsteam_api.so in your game folder to /usr/lib or similar place where your OS is looking for lib files?

It *should* look in the current working folder aka next to the game executable, but there might be some library paths wrong

I tried doing what you suggested in several different ways (via LD_LIBRARY_PATH, then by copying the lib around in various places), but it doesn't seem to help.

The in-game error specifically refers to a missing "steam_api.dll" file.

gabs: you should really rename the "Game_Data" folder to "game_Data" for anything to work :)

Are you starting the game directly from the Steam client?
