Is there a manual for beginners guide?
I've managed to find a fairly good Beginners Guide that's been put together by another player to get me started, but should I have received a PDF manual with the download of this game? I've checked my Steam directories and - nada. If there isn't a manual, then why not? A manual could go some way to explaining the backstory (which is immense with WH40k stuff) and would also clear up some of the game mechanic problems that I'm still encountering. If anyone knows where it's located (I've missed them in the past so it's entirrely feasible that it's just me being stupid), please give me a pointer. If no PDF exists then I think that someone at F.C Aps should really get on it... you really shouldn't have to rely on the gaming community to explain your game for you.

You're right that the game basically expects you to already understand the board game, but it shouldn't take you too long to get this going. I never played a Space Hulk before and in very little time I was plowing this with full understanding of all the rules and weapons. Try using the in game manual options, it has a lot of stuff that explains most of it. Not much to figure out after that. I definitely didn't need a PDF guide.

There is a basic explanation of each unit, some of the backstory, and most of the salient of the tactics and rules in the heading "Librarium" on the main menu for the game. That should answer many questions you might have. The first three missions in the heading "Entering the Sin of Damnation" are also a series of tutorial missions with pop-ups that explain some functionality.

'PowerPack' discription is missing, don't know what to do with it. Also there's no explanation in the Librarium. What is it ?

Um... no idea. I don't recall running into a "PowerPack" item in the game or on my Marines. Is this in a DLC or the base Sin of Damnation campaign?

Thanks for you comments folks. So I didn't miss the manual. Yes there is the Librarium and a pretty good tutorial/player guide. I guess the issue that I'm raising might be more broad - there doesn't seem to be an expectation of providing digital manuals with digitally downloaded games/content. Unexplained features and missed opportunities to fill in back story makes me a sad panda... Let's hope this is rectified.

Are you talking about the Power Field Generator present in mission 11 SoD ?? If so, not it's not in the Librarium or tutorials. Can be used once and works like barrier for the Librarian

Well, part of it will be a decision made by Games Workshop, the owner of the intellectual property. They publish dozens of game books and novels for the tabletop version of the game, and if you can just get the backstory as a free addition to your videogame, then they're less likely to be able to sell you a hard copy novel for it or a few supplements that have the fluff in them. It's a fairly sleazy practice, and one Games Workshop has been called on for plenty of times, but they keep doing it. So a company like Full Control, who only developes the one IP and needs to keep the license, are pretty much stuck only being able to put what content they're told to put in.

As for manuals? The Librarium is fairly accurate and inclusive, but you're right- most games just skimp on in-game resources like that or like comprehensive tutorials. In many cases, it's calculated to get players to interface on forums like this. In others, it's just plain penny-pinching to save money by not paying a guy to write the manual. Either way, it's a missed opportunity, I agree.

Here's a PDF of the rules to the first edition of the board game: http://spacehulk.barsoom.cc/ressurected/shbible/Space_Hulk_Bible_1st_edtion.pdf

I think the explanations of the core rules will clear up your questions about game mechanics. It is a huge set of rules though and most of it doesn't apply to this game. But you also said you wanted to know more about the game setting so you might find it interesting anyways.
