replay suggestion
This game totally needs a folder somewhere to stock replay vids of our most tremendous games, especially for multiplayer.
Thanks to consider :)

Thanks for your input, I would assume those files would end up being pretty big and that we would need to code a full system for that. But will ofc ask the coders :)

It's not so much that the file would be big, since you can code it to auto-compress. It's that a replay recorder can take up a fair bit of computer resource on its own while the game is operational and takes some time to code right so that it doesn't mess with the game. I'm sure your coders could easily handle one, given time to implement it right (isn't that always the case? =P ). It's just a matter of whether the game can handle the extra load without losing fps, animations or having computation slow-downs.

I meant just an option to save a replay in the end of a match, not to record every single match in one folder. Thus It could be possible to save the new record as a temp file until the game is quit, then it might be erased. Or like proposed above the new replay could compress the last temp one, orelse you name it differently, as it's done in DOW2 for example.

That'll probably be what they end up doing. Most games use the system you describe for replays. The trick is that while the game is playing, it has to be recorded. Consider that while we wait for replay options- it's going to take time to get it right. We don't want something like what happens in Company of Heroes 2, where the replay recorder actually causes laptops to crash in a BSOD for memory shortages, or causes massive framerate reductions to both laptops and PCs.

It's a great feature to add though. I'm kind of surprised to realize it wasn't already available. Bragging rights and showing off are always a major draw on games.

No offense intended but seriously you can't compare COH2 resources demands and SP ones... SP needs barely no resources to run.

The way to make replay system for a game like this would be to store unit movement and rolls so the game simply reruns the match within the game engine itself. This takes up almost no space. There's already 3rd part software for recording gameplay footage, so it would be wasteful spending resources on that.

But you can't know a game will become exciting until awesome situations have been realized, a replay function would definitely help to save those incredible moments which render games using random features so fun.

What I'm suggesting IS a replay system, just one that takes up far less space.

I dont think it would be that big. Just store the actual moves, not a video file. And then have the game replay the moves / rolls.

And yes, I've been thinking this is a much needed addition.

Yeah, and I for one would like to keep it so Space Hulk uses tiny resource. So FC will have to take the time to add the recorder in properly.

However, the fps issue in CoH2 isn't about resource. That's some kind of goofy bug CoH2 has where the limiter gets all messed up and the replay recorder causes lag on the system with no discernable reason. I really wouldn't want to see something like that happen to Space Hulk. Just saying.
