control marine facing on deploy?
So in (SoD) Exterminate, (SoD) Defend, and (FoF) Counter-Attack, at least, the marines teleport in to your designated squares, but you can't control their facing. This is a pretty big deal especially in Counter-Attack, where hainvg to spend 2 pts to turn around can be nasty.

I'm pretty sure in the board game when you placed your marine on the square, you controled the facing - rather than the scenario rules commanding you to roll for random facing. (Can anyone verify this?)

In FC's SH, there are even little arrows on the square when you place each marine's icon during deploy, but no amount of clicking the sides of the squares or whatever gives any control over initial facing.

Was this a conscious decision by FC to make the marines appear with a random facing (if so why? to make it more challenging? to simulate disorientation after, or imprecision of, teleport?) or was control of marine facing on deploy - like in the board game - just not gotten around to?

It would be a small, but pretty cool thing, to be able to control Marine facing as they teleport in on these missions, esp. FoF Counter-Attack.

Just wishing. Keep up the good work.

Well in the 1st edition rulebook for Defend, you can place your terminators anywhere on the board - not just in the rooms. Doesn't mention facing. But also, you have two flamers, as there was no auto cannon then, and the framers only have 4 shots each.

I suspect it's probably a coding thing - for normal missions where there is a deployment corridor, the deployment squares are probably given a facing to ensure everyone is facing the right way. So for the above missions, those squares are just all facing 'south'?

I don't know too much about he technical stuff, but I know we just looked into this for Genestealers.. I can put it on the list...but will not have super high priority right now

In FoF Counter-Attack, I messed around with it several times in Hotseat mode, to see if each marine was set to appear facing a certain direction or what. But after doing several tests, it appeared to be random. However, if you set a whole squad in a line in a hall, they will line up one behind the other facing the same way (though which way down the hall is anyone's guess), but if you spread them out at all, they may be facing any direction - often NOT the direction you'd wish they were facing, and this is important given how close at hand the enemy are - unlike for example in SoD Exterminate.

Thanks for putting it on the list, Zuggi.

Yes this is a much needed function, look forward to it being implemented. :)

In SoD: Exterminate, and Alarm Call the genestealer player is suppose to be allowed to deploy some of the space marines and choose their facing. I couldn't believe they didn't allow that in two very unbalanced scenerios.

Exterminate is not a great mission for a lot of reasons, mainly because it is super easy as presented if you know your work. It was only the second mission of the six in 1st. Ed. I think its purpose was more to teach about the power of overwatch and overlapping overwatch, rather than provide a big challenge. Suicide Mission(1), Rescue(3), CLS&BRN(4), Decoy(5) and Defend(6) from 1st Ed. are classics, but Exterminate is one you play once and never play again. Maybe a mission editor could turn Exterminate into something with a little drama and replayability, but I dunno.

@ScanMan
A whole separate system would have been needed for that to happen, which is why it was randomized

@Homba, that's some nice insight on Exterminate.

@Zuggi, I understand. You have to admit that the genestealer player is getting the shaft though.

But on an async game, it could take a couple of days _just_ to deploy the units before the first turn can start. Random deploy is a good compromise imo

@Scan
Seeing as it's random I guess it can be both good and bad, but yeah of course it's not in favour of the Genestealer player
