Hit Squad's original version of Space Hulk was like that - helmet cams and all. Played in real time, though you did have a timed pause for issuing orders. Wasn't a straight adaptation of the board game, but was still fun.

And even if SH did support modding, an Aliens mod would be very difficult to do. It would require expert modellers and animators to create a believable xenomorph action - if you want to do it right. Not very feasible.

No really. Someone tried it last summer when the game first came out.
There's tools for unpacking the resource files, but there's a limit on the file size that they can handle. A couple of the files can be processed, but the really useful stuff that you'd want to get to in order to do useful mods like new units or even just skinning the Space Marines so you can play using your own Chapter colours, those are all in the really large resource file that none of the available tools were able to process.

A shame, I'd love to be able to make skins to match my tabletop miniatures.

Difficult? No. Involved and time-consuming? Yes. Worth the effort? Absolutely not.

The first step would be in creating the bones and animations for the models. That alone is going to take a dedicated hobbyist weeks with the tools commonly available. Once that's done, then the meshes have to be built and overlayed onto the skeleton, and each bone assigned an anchor point (or four, in the case of rotary joints). Another couple of weeks worth of effort there. And once all of that is done, then you do the skins. Which will have to be hand-painted using Adobe or something, since just using a screencap texture is going to look incredibly cheap and bad. Another week just ont hat if the graphic artist is good at manipulating colors and shading. And then you have to debug your exploding meshes and improper bone assignments, as well as lay out the LODs so that the existing lighting and effects can work with the damn thing.

End result? A good two months of work for what pretty much amounts to a gag mod. This would be the type of thing that only a hardcore Aliens or Colonial Marine or Predator fan would even want to attempt, or someone who truly loves doing the work.

2 months for one model >.< man have people gone insane ?
Are you serious , look polishing and fixing error cost usually a month .

But since when do graphic expert take 2 month for one model .. I guess with improvements in IT and tools available , people just gotten more lazy .
Same thing happens in the whole of IT branch .

yeah 2 months is pretty insane... when i was learning to do grapic design we had 1 week to do a model, and another week to animate and render. i think it would be totally worth the effort to have an Aliens mod, if i was any good at 3D design and i knoew how to mod i would have already started. i dont know why nobody has done it because space hulk was inspired by Aliens even though games workshop doesnt want to admit to it.

Well cause GW hates modders , infact in bloodbowl , the dev and publisher were forced to eh recall supporting modding community .

Cause it breaks the license agreement on the EULA and Copywright .
If you support modding or allow it , you are on the blacklist of GW lawyers :P .

Well truth is I like space hulk cause it is 40k , Aliens even my love for TBS , can´t really imagine it being played in TBS style .
It wouldn´t hold the same fear factor , weak marines vs deadly aliens .
Infact we all know what happened to the poor marines ;)

Infact this is more like Predator VS Aliens .. heck with space wolfs dlc definetly predator vs aliens :D

It takes a programmer or graphic artist who does this for a living about a week or two to do their first model in a series, like what would be needed for a game like this. After that, it takes three or four days each for variants.

We are not talking about a professional though. We are talking about modding, which means hobbyists who do this on the side for the fun or challenge of it. And they will not likely have the professional grade modeler and animation tools to expedite the process, having to rely on doing each one by hand from start to finish.

I thought the same thing - obvious Aliens mod would be great. Speed up those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ animations and make fluid humans who can actually shoot. Do the aliens in this sit around smoking while the termis try and shoot. Termis seem to have super human reflexs to be able to shoot a passing alien and melee is okay, but walking around you wonder how. It makes them seem like tin cans.
