Jamming and how it's not working properly in more ways than one
Hello,

Really enjoying Space Hulk! Until a recent update that broke Easy mode from disabling Jam! during overwatch, now they Jam just like in normal/hard mode.

How it's broken in more than one way; I intended to play Space Hulk on normal mode the first time around, as I've played the board game for years and know what I'm doing to an extent, but I quickly discovered the Jam mechanic is broken. It goes off 80% or the time after firing on overwatch once, ONCE. In the board game, Jamming was a rare and often damning even, it was a fun risk, it had a 1 in 6 chance. In this game it feels like a 1 in 6 chance -NOT- to Jam. Effectivly making overwatch a useless tactic. Which if you've played enough of the board game, is the main tactic you use to win....

Please tweak the numbers on Jamming occuring or fix Easy mode to not use Jam. Either way I'll be happy.

Thanks, keep up the good work

Someone mentioned that it just seems like there is more jamming in this game over the board game is because in this game the AI gene stealers are always rushing forward where human players hide more. I never played the board game so I cannot compare.

The Difficulty was bugged in the last version, but should be fixed for the next patch/release. I only recall reports on the hardmode nto applying...oddly it worked for th efirst map but if you went back without changing the difficulty back and forth it wouldn't apply to the next map. I'll check up and see if easy is fixed in my current test build

Great, thank you :)

Does this mean that the really high chance of Jamming, in normal/hard mode, is working as intended?

Yeah, it's just like rolling the dice yourself.

Okay, entered a game on normal mode, exited to menu, started a new game a set it back to easy. 1st Mission from 1st Campaign played through with no Jams. Returned to where I was up to in the 3rd Campaign, still on easy, Captain Jammed and died.

OVERKILL ?
Another oversight that doesn't follow the behaviour of the board game, my Captain (before he died) fired at a Genestealer and scored two 6's, which killed his target but had no effect on the 2nd Genestealer directly behind his 1st target. There is no Overkill in your version?

In my games the jamming is okay. Sometimes the guns are very reliable, sometimes they jamm every second shot. I can still handle it with enought CP leftover for clear the gun.

I think its totaly subjectively on which side you play. Often I think after a Termi clears a room, hey now the stealer player rages bcs. the damn gun kills anything and cant be stoped. On other hand sometimes I rage bcs. the gun jamms far to often. But overall it looks okay.

For me the Closecombat is broken. My LC oder TH cant kill even one stealer, or be killed in the first att. thats hard to see. But I think even this is a totaly narrow point of view, if I would use the LC/TH a little bit more I will see them cut throug a stealerhord with easy :)

Overkill is from 2nd ed, not 3rd(whose ruleset the game is based on).

Not first I can say (2nd or 3rd I dont know), it was mentioned first with the Space Wolf rules in a Whit Dwarf? But only for the Assault Cannon, not for bolters, if I remember it right.

Try switching the slider from easy to normal then back to easy before each mission. It worked for me to get hard mode.

i find TH is pretty good when in guard. And doesn't, obviously, so in a way more reliable to hold a corridor while the rest of the squad achieve the objective. I've been using the LC more recently too and finding a little more success than I originally thought.
As you say, it's likely just perception. You only remember when the dice roll against you.

Wasp, makre sure your TH is in Guard. If you initiate attacks, you become much weaker. If you don't turn on Guard (the shield symbol) you are also weaker. HTH

There's no Overkill in 3rd Ed Space Hulk? : / In Space Hulk (1st & 2nd Ed) and Warhammer 40,000 two solid hits on a Stormbolter is two dead bodies. Do we not think two 6's is worthy of some good killing? A reward for an excellent roll from our Space Marine? I think Overkill would be an excellent addition to Space Hulk (PC).

Jamming
I'm still not convinced this is working as intended, i.e; like the board game. In 3rd Ed, do you Jam on one side of a D6? As in a 1 in 6 chance? Space Hulk (PC) really doesn't feel like that at all. I haven't experienced this "Sometimes it goes fine, sometimes it Jams all the time" people are mentioning, for me it's after the first Overwatch shot %80 of the time and 99.9% if there's a second.

And don't even get me started on Close Combat in this game, mostly because it's off topic.

In 3rd edition (and PC) you roll 2 die and if both show the same number you jam so yes it is 1 chance in 6 but in a slightly different way.

I can't find any mention of Overkill in the 1st edition rulebooks. Was it an additional rule from a White Dwarf article? Or could be it is 2nd edition only?
Seems too powerful and it'd unbalance the game too much in favour of the SpaceMarine player.

Regarding jamming - that's really what your CPs are for. You shouldn't be spending them in your turn unless you don't have any Marines on overwatch that turn.

Jams only occur during GS turn.
