Is Uplay a virus?
I heard that one dude installed it, and it hijacked his search engine!

No, uPlay won't harm your computer as far as I know. It's mostly just mildly annoying.

Ubisoft also has no search engine or anything like that but it's always good to check if a program wants to install stuff like the Ask Tool bar when installing them.

Goodness no. It's a Digital Distribution client. Nothing more.

Can´t login to uplay, some kind of a dll problem ? I just installed the game on my new laptop, it forces me of course to install uplay as well. Then it just gives an error message and the game is not starting. :(

Completely uninstall Uplay via the Windows Uninstaller, then reinstall it from the official website, here: https://uplay.ubi.com/

I had a similar issue happen to me when I ran an installation of the game from an old hard drive back when I was running Windows 7. Of course that bit isn't related since I verified the contents of the game and Steam said everything was in check. My guess is Ubisoft never updated the game with a version of Uplay that can be updated to the latest version and is in effect broken unless you either already had an up to date Uplay client installed or download it directly from their website.

Most probably a scam. Uplay has not exactly a good reputation so this tale could have been crafted out of the hatred it stem. I highly doubt it, though uPlay does eat off a portion of a computer's resources (other than those of Rayman and Steam).
