As for the available planes for that campaign, I can't remember where it was stated, but it was noted that the roster was curated for what the Bastille Company would have available; mainly narrowed to planes that are neiter dinosaurs, or hyper-advanced.
The decision to limit the player based on a story that frankly I wonder if anyone really cares about is questionable. The main driver (which the story could have supported) should be having fun and enriching the gameplay experience. Of course I am speaking from the casual perspective which is still important to grow your customer base.
I applaud the developer for making a jet arcade/sim but this is not a polished realease. From my view I think it should have been more focused and strategic in general. For example more priority should have been given to campaign instead of having so many modes that do not work well and create more work to fix. Also it would have been better to have more plane types instead of creating so many derivations that most do not care about or use.
If this team goes under, which would be a shame because there are not enough games like this, it will be because a lack of strategic planning and focus on exactly what they were trying to achieve. The original plan was perhaps too ambitious maybe because they were trying to keep everyone happy with a huge wish list instead of focusing on 2 or 3 modes that are polished where all the plane derivations could have came later. I hope they can regroup and prioritize better in the future.
