How playable is this game without a controller?
I got a 360 controller but when I play a PC game I prefer kb/mouse mostly. So since this game appears to be designed for consoles just wondering how playable it is without the controller on the PC.

Very playable. I actually prefer a mouse and keyboard for this over a 360 controller.

I'm used to proper MMO interfaces, where you can use mouselook for camera movement and alkso for selection of powers and abilities (or spells if a fantasy setting), and I have to say, DCUos interface leaves a really nasty taste in my mouth. It's awful. it might be better with a controller, but it's terrible with just mouse and keyboard, because the game forces you to waste the mouse on just two attacks and leaves your other hand to control 8 powers AND block AND the usual WASD and movement power too.

Yeah, what kind of PC game does that?

Oh right. All of them.

Yeah I have dled it with my SOE all access. Right now not a big fan of controls in it but going to give it some more time.

It actually sounds like you aren't used to PC games at all. In every major MMO ever, clicking your spells/abilities is stupid because it's incredibly slow compared to using the hotkeys. *Everyone* uses hotkeys in major MMOs. There is nothing unusual at all about DCUO's control scheme. It's a generic blend of the standard MMO scheme and the standard action game control scheme.

Keyboard and Mouse is the best way to play the game.

I enjoy this game a lot more with my controller (Razer Onza), not to mention playing it on my TV, since it's a console port and feels like a console game, and the fixed UI and lack of scaling (not to mention that huge chat box) looks so much better when it's on a physically bigger screen.

When I first tried playing it with my keyboard and mouse, I simply didn't enjoy it because I felt like I was constantly fighting against the UI. For every other MMO, I use a keyboard and mouse, just not with this one.

Of course, if you like it with keyboard and mouse, that's great, you can use either one!

You get the option to resize the chatbox in GU23 tomorrow.

I do, that comes with having played PC games since childhood.

Well got 1 char to 13 and another to 8.The controls are still not too friendly but livable so far. Once I get into something harder we will see how it goes.

If you aren't used to using the number keys as hotkeys It can take some getting used to, but the control scheme is pretty standard for a action RPG.

Yes using hotkeys for abilities is standard but the camera with mouse moving nonstop and targeting is not.

No, the vast majority of 1st person, 3rd person, side-scrollers, and top-down games (i.e. most action games) on the PC work like that. The major exceptions are Diablo-likes, Dota-likes, and WoW clones.

How many PC games have you actually played? Because that is the standard.

As much as I enjoy a KB/M setup for my MMOs, I have to say I kind of like playing this a little better with a controller.

Granted, I say this having gotten fairly used to the PS3 version already, and only recently having started up on the PC version, but I think the way the UI's set up, it still feels a little weird.
AraxisHT Feb 22, 2013 @ 4:00pm
Yeah, it plays well either way.
