NG+...
...IS F***ING KILLING ME! Seriously this is one hell of a steep difficulty curve. Every room is just crammed full of high level enemies and turrets. I can just about clear a few rooms if I play as a tank but even 900HP feels underpowered, playing with anything lower than that and I get destroyed.

Anyone else seriously struggling with this? Initially I found this game to be a nice alternative to Spelunky, in that it seemed a bit more forgiving and allowed progression even through death. But man alive did s**t just get real.

(I do adore this game though, despite hitting this wall)

If you use the enchantments that reduce enemy difficulty, it becomes the same as it used to be.
Many players typically find NG+ to be quite an easy run. The difficulty jump really isn't so bad. Tier 2 enemies are only slight improvements.

It's NG+2 that really kicks your ####.
I thought it was easy up until NG+4, then it got pretty challenging. Once the enemies become the huge versions, the last type, their attacks cover the screen. The second type attacks are barely larger than the first. Couple more fireballs, a little more ice etc.
Maybe building more toward defence is counter productive as it takes you ages to kill the monsters, allowing them to spam more attacks on you. A hockage with high attack one hitting them may be better than a barbarian who has to hit them 7 times while saoking up loads of damage.
Good point, that could completely be his problem. I personally get the most out of Spellsword and Hokage, for exactly that reason: They deliver a lot of damage and you don't have to fight for long.
If you could complete the Darkness without dying in the normal game then NG+ shouldn't be difficult.
Thanks for the replies guys. I'm thinking I probably spread my perks a bit thin. I wanted to explore the perk tree and see what was available so my build is probably somewhat un-focused. I pumped a lot of points into health, a decent amount into armour and equip load and then just spread the rest out. Probably a bit too defensive I guess.

Maybe I'll start a new game and plan my build beforehand. Focus more on damage than defense. So Hokage's/Spellsword's deal out heavy damage then?
Hokage does the most melee damage, ignoring late game critical hits builds. Spellsword does the most magic damage, thanks to empower spell.

I wouldn't restart, just keep grinding more coins and get better while you do it. The game is about grinding, but you also need to pick up skill.

I did a restart recently, just had an amazing run... a single character cleared NG+4, NG+5 and NG+6, but died on NG+7. That entirely has to do with learning to dodge enemy attacks, not with the upgrade trees.
Yeah I'm not great at dodging. I'm ok when the enemies are spread out but in areas like the dark where I'm in narrow spaces with lots of turrets, spitting plants plus all the other enemies I find it hard getting out of the way. I think I will start a new game though as I can still keep my current character if I want to go back to it, the obssessive part of me loves a tidy perk tree.
Is there a way to get back to the pre-NG+ castle for easier grinding? I'm having the same problem; enemies now take 3-5 hits to kill instead of 1, so I don't recover enough gold before dying to pay for upgrades.

no but u can buy/use some of the level down runes. it helps surviving but only a little. if u didnt level enough b4 going onto next makes it so difficult to progress. lots of times crits and damage is better than health. having good set up of armors and runes helps alot too.
