It's cheap and cheesy but it beats this godforsaken boss SOMETIMES. You cannot rely on this, as it took me about 30 tries until it worked, as the boss' movements are random. You just need to be lucky.

As soon as the fight starts, jump up, place down the B (on the controller obviously) skill, and drop back down to the starting platform. As he approaches, if you're lucky he'll do the four way attack in a reachable range so you just stand there and attack him. Do that once, and then after that get away from him and as he approaches (you should now be on the right side) get a few hits on him and back into the spikes. Then, by now, there should be a whole lot of minions spawned and you should be near full health. Now drop down a tiny bit onto the spikes and spam attack Alexander. You'll take 21 (I think?) damage per few seconds, but also do a chunk to him each time. If you're low, kill the minions gathered or back it up and do it again once you regain health. Just beat him doing this.
