Post subject: Re: Trainsimulator 2015 Frame RatesPostPosted: Wed Jan 21, 2015 9:34 am
I have spent about 11 hours running TS 2015 since I installed it.. I ran Trainz for over 2 years, and TS 12 was the most bug infested piece of software I have ever experienced. Almost every one of the default routes in Trainz has bugs in them, and never worked correctly even after the massive update they did about 1 year ago that broke many routes. With the many negative reviews of TS2014 and 15, I expected the worst, and in addition the frame rates were always mentioned as being horrible in TS 2015.
As far as the frame rates go, I think many people that posted these terrible frame rate complaints must have been running TS2015 on a 5 year old laptop with a default video card, because I have a pretty unsophisticated computer and am averaging consistently between 30-40FPS with no stuttering or lagging at all. I was totally surprised by this, since with Trainz TS12, I didn't get anything as good. I do get higher frame rates with Run 8 , except in busy yards, where it drops to around 30 FPS. So, no complaints about frame rates and I ran 3 different routes to check this out, Miami, ECMP and the New Haven Route. The surprise , as I stated, is that there is no stuttering or buffering of the video. It is as smooth as silk.
Now to the bugs, and as I stated, Trainz TS12 was a horror story for bugs. I have yet to have one bug pop up on any of the scenarios I have run with TS2015, so far. I suspect that could be a problem with certain routes, but so far I have not seen one problem in over 11 hours of running. No crashes, no errors in the scenario scripts, nothing that doesn't work correctly, nothing at all to complain about. I am mostly running electrified rail and diesel operations and haven't gotten into steam at all yet.
I grew up in Manhattan, I love the look and feel of the New York New Haven route, and city routes in general. It looks like it does in real life, complex city buildings, apartments, suburbs, etc...etc. This is the only sim I have tried that makes this look very realistic. Throw in a rain storm, or snow storm, etc, and it gets even better. I lived in Miami- Ft Lauderdale for 10 years, and the Miami route which I purchased right away, also looks very real to me, and I know that area like the back of my hand. I ran the ECML last evening, and having made numerous trips to Europe and riding the trains their, again , the look and feel of ECML makes you feel like you are running a route in Europe.
The only negative, as was mentioned , is the physics, but frankly I didn't buy TS2015 for the physics, because I have Run 8 for that. Like comparing apples to oranges in my opinion, two different animals. Are the physics a deal breaker, unless you drive a real train or have many hours on Run 8, I doubt if most people would complain that much about the physics, because they aren't that bad in my opinion, at least what I have experienced so far.
I still think for realistic operation of a train, Run 8 can't be beat, but as someone told me the other night on Teamspeak, which got me interested in TS 2015, this is also an excellent sim as an alterative to Run 8. Some days will be Run 8 days, and some will be TS2015 days. It's all good. :)
