CSS - Problem after update. (Failed to load the launcher dll (null))
Update game took place today, before updating everything was okay. And after the update, do not I run CSS, just shows the message "failed to load the launcher dll (null)" I've tried to verify the integrity of files, I even tried to reinstall the game, and of nothing after the update simply refused to obey. With all my heart please help me on this. ;(

It did not help, I removed all the startup parameters, again for the third time I reinstalled the game, and sure as hell will not start. I might also add that I have Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3, and a friend for Win 7 of computers with similar characteristics as my everything runs properly. Already lost my ideas on what I could do to make it work. Before the update everything was okay...

Exactly the same problem for me, take also place just after last update on 17 sep.2013. Have tried to reinstall, to verify integrity of game cache, to reinstall from physic game on DVD (HL² +CS:S) and updating ........ NO WAY ! Whats happend with this last update ??? Please help, or fix that bug with new udpate, this game was perfectly working for years. HL² is running, no problem, but CS:S says the same : " Failed to load the launcher DLL: (null) " in error windows 1 sec after launch. Please help.

Unfortunately it did not help. Overall, I tested this problem with a friend under Win XP and assistive technologies etc. is the same. I think Valve forgot to add support for this system in their latest update ... If anyone else has any ideas how to get rid of this problem, please kindly write if not it probably will have to wait for another update that addresses this problem.

I have just tried it. Well i... Unfortunately, the problem persists, the game does not start. I have already written on this subject to support on steam. Probably nothing more I can do. ;X

Dear community,

since last steam-update on 16/17.09.2013 i get following message when i try to start CSS : launcher error - failed to load the launcher DLL: [null].

steam-error : game can not be started (app already running)


On monday evening i played normal like every other day but on tuesday morning after the steam-update the problem started.


While googling help and support since 48 hours, I tryed out some things:

1.) bin-folder namechanged
2.) bin-folder deleted and ordered new files with steam
3.) folder in path C:\Programme\Steam deleted (without Steam.exe, SteamApps and Userdata) files updated, start only with steam.exe after reboot
4.) folder in path C:\Programme\Steam deleted (without Steam.exe, SteamApps and appcache) files updated, start only with steam.exe after reboot
5.) launcher.dll deleted and files verifyed over steam gameclient
6.) steam new installed and files verifyed over steam gameclient
7.) files moved from folder bin in C:\Programme\Steam\SteamApps\common\Counter-Strike Source


Unfortunately without improvement.

and more about this bug : we tried to exchange Counter-Strike Source folder files, from a perfectly working system, to my "corrupted" system. Replacement of files doesnt give any result. Errasing the bin, cstrike, cfg folders and then reloading them from Steam doesnt give more result. It seems thats new system (dll) files from Steam are corrupted before downloading. We are waiting for a new working update...

I am having the same problems, when I logged on tried to start css then the "Failed to launch dll (null)", so i reinstalled like you guys and still showing "Failed to launch dll (null)", so irratating -_-

Dear community,

today support tolds me to change steamclient under options to steamclient-beta participation to solve the problem.

Unfortunately without any improvement; the problem launcher error - failed to load the launcher DLL: [null] still exists.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall the game,
verify the game cache file and nothing works...
Now wait until Valve release a new update or something...

i tryed but doesn't working...

Also,i see the cause of this problem can be non sse2 cpu.
People who have this problem is only in cs:go who require sse2 cpu
So,can be a problem of sse2 because Valve update the launcher.dll with sse2 or something?
