accessibility to a newcomer? (Will this game be too hard)

Hi, so I used to play PC FPS's a lot as a teenager. But as my pc aged and studying took up most my time - I've only been a casual console gamer for the last 6 or so years.
I've been itching to play PC FPS games again for a long time, but I can only run old games. It's awesome CS:S still has a strong online community and I should be able to run it. But at this stage will everyone be way too good for me to even play such a veteran game.
I barely remember the maps and haven't used a keyboard+mouse for an FPS game for years! Shall I just dive in and give it a go?
