My review for people who prefer to read: http://criticalindiegamer.com/2013/06/gun-monkeys-review-pc/

Nice game, Dan. Once the technical issues get sorted out, I will represent it in my score :)

While I like the idea of 1v1 local platformer shooter, I find this game a little too chaotic with the artstyle and effects. I dont like overkill visual effects in games myself. Screen full of flashy galore of explosions and blood, kinda takes away the gameplay from precision and aim to trying to just figure out what the hell is going on.

Note: I dont own this game, I based this comment on videos and screenshots.

You can dial down the glow in options, that should make it more to your tastes.

Also, the glow's not at noticeable in-game as it is in trailers. Something about having it squished down to fit a video player or compressed makes it look WAY more harsh that it actually is. But anyway, if it's a worry: you can turn it down/ off if you choose :)

*Edit*
Finally got in to some matches, looks like the problems are being ironed out and people are starting play. Aside from a questionable UI and some missing features, this is easily the most action-packed multiplayer I've experienced in a 2d retro styled game. Highly recommended, especailly if you have a friend to in on a 2pack with!

Hey dan, Im from Argentina, and I don't know people from my country who plays that game. I cant play online because it says to me that it will be Unfair. Im ok with that, but can you extend the ping limit or something? Great game

Ping limit is something we're *constantly* balancing to make sure it's fair for everyone. If we can push it any further, we shall do :)

My first impression of the game, together with a free giveaway

Hiya! sorry your seeing a bad experiance becasue of this. Ive got a few improvments for this system lined up that should improve things for you. There is one way that you can help though! tell me what your ping is!

To ping in Windows 7/8, coppy this line (depending if your trying to play on the US or EU region), press start, paste this command down and press enter. i need to know the average and max pings. In windows Xp you can paste the command in to the Run box.

US region: cmd /k ping app-us.exitgamescloud.com
EU region: cmd /k ping app-eu.exitgamescloud.com

Thanks! <3

So, I just played this game with a couple of guys, including but not limited to danthat, and I gotta say, I'm impressed. I mean I don't really like side-scrolling shooter/platformers too much, but this game is super righteous and fun. I actually consider the hectic, action-packed, high-octane gameplay a plus, but too each their own, I guess. The plotline is pretty cool, too. The art style meshes really well with the futuristic theme, and the fast paced combat. I'd be quite surprised if this gem of a game doesn't get any awards. I guess my only complaint is that it was hard to shoot people when they got real close and up in your grill, so maybe add a melee attack? Maybe a neon lightning katana. It's up to danthat, though. So, I'd definitely reccomend this game to anybody who loves awesome action with friends. And, it's only 10 dollars, so that's pretty cool. It's definitely worth it, you won't be dissapointed. You should get a 2 pack, though, and give it to a buddy you'd enjoy blowing up and shooting.

Thanks Nixon, glad you enjoyed it :)

Will look into melee. It doesn't really feel like *that game* to me, I think it'd be too fiddly, but I'll have a playaround.

How about the ability to push or throw your opponent when you are both up really close to one another? I think that'd be a better fit.

could add a hyper melee wep as a timed power up.
or add optional mods for matches between friends?
