2. You can easily avoid it if you know what you're doing.
3. The time limit is actually quite reasonable. What were you going to do with that extra time exactly? There would be a ton of items that would be totally broken if there was infinite time. Need evidence? Go to the worm level (the ghost doesn't appear on that level because it is larger and harder than most) and kapala farm for a bit. It's very easy, and if you know what you're doing and spend a large amount of time, you can get a LOT of health there.
I feel ghosting should give your high score some kind of mark, so getting a high score without ghosting would be a truly fantastic achievment.
Are you saying you refuse to play Super Mario Bros. as well?
I understand the desire to play carefully and think things out, and certainly enjoy a variety of games in that realm (e.g. FTL). However, time limits aren't inherently a bad thing, and it fits well for the game. Also worth noting is that it's a soft time limit - the ghost takes a few seconds to actually come out and moves around very slowly. You can avoid it indefinitely witha jetpack, or manuever around it with ropes, Spring Shoes, Climbing Gloves, etc.
as well as most official sports like basketball....
The ghost is a necessary mechanic and is one of the primary factors that encourages a newbie to get better at the game. Without the ghost, many of Spelunky's biggest threats could be waited out. As your skills improve, the ghost gets dramatically less threatening, to the point where it flips to the other end of the spectrum and becomes a useful tool for high-score runs.
Required reading for new players that bought Spelunky expecting something else, especially the section about the "time limit": http://spelunky.wikia.com/wiki/The_Ghost,_Permadeath_and_You:_Coping_with_Misunderstanding_Spelunky

Hence the time limit and heavy emphasis on platforming skills.
This is why the experience you want, which is charateristic of a rogue-like and IMO its sole defining feature, cannot be found in this game.
But people have abused the term too much, and so rogue-like gets closer and closer to meaning nothing.
roguelike characteristics are random levels and absolute death einstein.
it has nothing to do with platforming.
