I'm at about 100 deaths now and I've never even made it to the temple

I thought I made it to the temple once, but it turns out that the tower thing you find in the ice cave doesn't actually lead to the temple.

I probably have more than 150 deaths and I have only reach Olmec once, still haven't beat him though.
EDIT: Just checked, almost 300 deaths hahahah, I think it is because I restart a lot if I don't feel the run is going to go well.

~130 for me(Olmec), but a friend of mine is really really good at this type of games he have around 30 tries and killed olmec twice and won one time hell.

Did you play the 360 version? 100 deaths to beat hell is a little ridiculous.

It took me about 70 deaths to beat Hell, but only because I had already poured hundreds of hours into the original freeware Spelunky, and I had also watched lots of streams of people getting to Hell and beating Yama, so I already knew what to do.

When I got this version of Spelunky, I was so determined to complete Hell that my first Olmec kill and first Yama kill were both in the same run.

I just killed Olmec, took me 185 tries

About 500 for hell, though I beat the place the second time I managed to reach it. The first time around I wanted to add one of the blue demons to my journal, so I tried to kill one with a goomba stomp. You can probably guess how that turned out.
