Hard But Fun....
Since i got this a few days ago, I've only gotten to Level 1-2. But my son tried it and kept at it until he got to 1-5 and was a little flustered because he had to go back to the start. But it's fun and challenging. Thanks for a fun game which costs a few bucks!

There is no level 1-5...

Also got it a few days ago and was able to make it to the ice caverns today. It's a lot of trial and error and looking before you leap it seems, it actually reminds me a lot of Dark Souls. There are some good guides out there that helped me get an idea of playstyles that can take you the furthest. Good luck!

There's 4 levels to an area. After 1-4, the last level in the mines, is 2-1 the first level of the jungle.

I played the classic a long time ago and got 100% completion, but I like all the new stuff in this version.

I guess you can't save at any point? That would make the game easier and not as challenging I suppose.

Spelunky is heavily inspired by roguelikes (if not a roguelike itself, but people like to argue about that term), and a core roguelike concept is permadeath. You can unlock shortcuts to practice with harder areas, though.

Okay thanks. I am just beginning to learn about Roguelikes type games :)
