Shotgun or Scepter
Which will help me more on 4-3 and Olmec? I know shotgun is the obvious choice in general, besides the fact that you normally wouldn't have the scepter meaning to actually use it, but which would be of more use in this specific scenario?

Edit: The answer is neither because I can't reliably beat Olmec

The scepter can easily kill you if you aren't careful with it. If it goes for something that's behind you, it has no qualms about going straight through you to get to it, killing you in the process. It also only "sticks" to targets that leave a corpse. It'll fly straight through anything else it kills (mummies, flying scorpions, etc), which means that you could end up with a nigh-unpredictable purple ring of death flying all over the place, potentially hitting you.

The shotgun makes for a much safer weapon. If you're still having trouble with the temple/Olmec, the scepter is just going to end up being one more thing to worry about (and potentially kill you).

Yup, nailed it on the head,

The shotgun is the best weapon in the game, hands down. Anything else is either not as powerful or as likely to endanger you as it is to help you.

A weapon is of minimal help against Olmec, though. If you play like me, you'll want to have about two dozen bombs and just blow a big hole (about two to three Olmecs wide) that goes straight to the bottom, though letting Olmec itself take out the last layer of floor.

It also seems that if they happen to touch a crocodile man, they tend to chase it down. Which is especially dangerous since the crocodile man starts to teleport around.
If I get the choice I prefer the scepter though. Once you figured out how it works, it becomes a lot safer. Like standing near the borders of a level are fairly safe, and having corpses around to be used as a beacon for the projectile. It stays a risks, for sure, but it takes care of those shopkeepers pretty well.
