Complete freedom (fine print: for 2 minutes)
"You'll have complete freedom while you navigate the fully-destructible environments and master their many secrets."

After 2 minutes an immortal, no-clip flying ghost hunts you down and kills you.

Logic is where you say? Game is punishing enough with no progression at all, once you die (except your skills i guess).

Is this going to be yet another topic about hating the ghost and refusing to acknowledge opposing views, or are you actually interested in having a polite discussion about it?

If it's the first, there are a lot of other topics for it. The second, not so much.

I don't hate the ghost, I just don't think it matched the games actual description. Now you can say what you wish, but that's my peronal opinion on the matter.. and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who was surprised by it. Now sure I could have found this out by studying videos and let's play's... but every once in a while I like to be spontaneous about my purchases, and maybe be pleasantly surprised.. This however, was not such a time.

Even when the ghost shows up, you have complete freedom. She's slow. You can evade her for a long, long time. You can use her to get more money. You can even kill her, it just takes a lot of time.

That's a lot of her's :P

If you find a camera, try taking a picture of the ghost. Then you'll see why the ghost is commonly referred to as a she.

Sorry you don't like a mechanic that I've seen maybe three or four times in the entirety I've played the game and I've got to the City of Gold. At least you supported the developer!

Well I don't really like to rush through a game, even though it's a roguelike. Especially when the controls are so hard to get used to (i suppose you can reconfigure them though). But I can appreciate the game, and I have no problem supporting indie devs.

2,5 minutes is more than enough to clear a level and get everything without the ghost appearing.

Surely you can't mean that :P That's the word of a rusher. Sure if I play it for 10 hrs and get MLG pro I can clear a cave within 2.5 mins aswell, but the point you fail to understand is: I don't want to. Some people don't want to rush. Some people read "complete freedom" and expect complete freedom.

I never rush, either. I take my sweet time so I can do multitudes of tricks to clear Shopkeeps for free.

Well then I guess we have a different playstyle then. gasp

I've played about 4 hours. For most levels my average clear time is around 1 minute, a bit higher if there're more things I want to take out of the level, lower if there's not much to clear. It's not that I'm rushing, but rather that most levels don't NEED more time than that to clear, even if i'm being super careful. It's incredibly rare that you'll need more than 2:30 unless you're ghost mining (in which case you're purposely summoning and dodging the ghost), trying to take stupid risks or wasting bombs and ropes you'll probably need elsewhere trying to clean out the whole level.

Keep in mind (and this point could be completely irrelevant if you don't like Mario games but nonetheless) hugely popular games like Super Mario Brothers also enforce time limits (300 secs iirc), but usually you don't notice them because they're so long that they don't inconvenience you. The ghost is like that once you're used to the game. And whilst Mario's time limit is hard-set and you lose if you don't make it, the ghost is completely avoidable, so you do still maintain that "Complete freedom" as long as you dodge the ghost.

So give it a chance, get used to the game and you'll probably find you're not even worrying about the ghost anymore!
