The majority will tell you no. The minority will say it is a near masterpiece. You will enjoy it if you have no preconceptions around the 1st game as some mechanics are no longer present and if you love high quality prose and atmosphere.

Depends on what you're looking for really. Machine for Pigs is more of a story-driven interactive experience if you want an honest description, it's not a horror game in the sense of the first Amnesia or even Silent Hill, if anything I'd say it's like an interactive horror novel; most of the experience is going to be entirely dependent on your imagination and how much you get into the story. You could say it's psychological horror to its most logical extreme, where it's practically not even a game anymore. Like a horror-version of Dear Esther actually now that I think about it.

Comparatively Outlast is the completely other end of the spectrum, it's jump scares and chase sequences from start to finish with no real atmosphere or depth, it's the video game equivilent of, well actually I can't think of a decent analogy, not quite a 'slasher film' ♥♥♥♥♥, but it's almost enitrely and overtly shoving stuff in your face rather than subtlety. Think Dead Space taken up to eleven, just with combat swapped for running away.

Simply put they're two opposite ends of the spectrum of horror in gaming, and really couldn't be any less comparable to one another. Which you'll like more really depends on what you're looking for; if you prefer the sort of horror you might experience reading a horror novel then Machine for Pigs is the way to go, Outlast if you prefer that very in-your-face constant jump scares. Of course if what you were looking for in either is a more traditional experience with a balance of different kinds of tension building, atmosphere, equal parts adventure as 'action' like say Silent Hill or Resident Evil, you'll likely be dissapointed with both.

I honestly wouldn't suggest either though without knowing what you like first, since they're so different from one another it's hard to know which you'd like and you could just as easily hate both. So with that said; what sort of games do you usually enjoy? Horror-wise since I presume that's why we're comparing them.

A machine for pigs definitely isn't worth it.

Buy both. They're both on sale.

Just get Outlast. I've played both, and niether are REALLY that good, but you'll have more fun with Outlast. A Machine for Pigs isn't interactive. You follow a linear path, solve some senseless puzzles, and read notes. If you've heard of Dear Esther, it's pretty much the same thing. Not that I'm saying it's bad to be like that, I personally just don't prefer it.

AMFP is more about the story. Nothing more, nothing less. For $10, I wouldn't buy it. Outlast went down to $7 or so. I'd wait for AMFP to reach that price. Maybe even wait for Outlast to go down to that price again too.

Or even better; buy The Dark Descent if you haven't already played it.

If you want a soft horror with a good story and suggestive situations buy it

It's extremely short, not worth it no matter how good people say it is. No Mod support is a huge turn down as well.

I'm worried I'll buy it now and it'll be 75% in a flash sale later..

Okay, Amnesia AMFP was good in it's story, no doubt. But honestly, Unless you want to read a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of notes, it isn't worth it. Buy Outlast. The guy up there who insulted it is wrong. Outlast was fantastic. It's atmosphere is fantastic, even if it does take place in a steryotipical insane asylum. Make the right choice here, which is Outlast, most definately.

Not this sale. Daily/flash deals are pretty much the bottom price for the sale.

That's close to 100%, as in no exceptions I can think of in years.

I'd say it's worth it so long as you don't have the wrong expectations. The game is slower paced and focuses on psychological horror more than The Dark Descent did. The intense enemy encounters are kept to a minimum, but are pretty effective in keeping you on your toes.

A lot of the complaints around here now seem to be judging it as though it should be something more like Outlast. It's a great, well made game if you are open the a stranger, less in your face kind of horror. Would say a good comparison would be Silent Hill is to Resident Evil as A Machine for Pigs is to Outlast.

I recommend this game a lot. It is totally worth to buy. Only negative thing is, it is not very long, but i don't think that matters very much. Outlast or machine for pigs : I haven't play Outlast so i can't say much about it...
