And indeed without story you don't have a game too, just a (boring) puzzle.
Why so much hate for story driven game today? Back in the day they where praised fro they way to introduce story in that game that never had before one.
And you still pretty much press W for a bunch of hours listening to story brunches, in every single videogames since 1997. Prove me wrong.
Don't like it? Don't play it, nobody force you to like it.
You prefer more scary games? Play more scary games then, there are plenty out there where's the problem?
Indeed, i pre-ordered it at day one and i like it, so what's your point?
In one point I must correct you: How can you say to someone "Don´t like it? Don´t play it." if this person has never played this game or see something from it before? I can just say that if the expectations of persons were to high and they became disappointed that is their problem.
Wat?
So, if i like something that you didn't, make me a little girl?
And it's really impossible that you bought it totally blindfold, you had to see the teaser at least and where clear that the Chinese Room where on the wheel, so your fault if you think that a title made a game.
And your words:
"I'm NOT saying it needs to return to every aspect of TDD, and it can't progress, but Frictional needs to do it (or specifically whoever or whatever team came up with the whole sanity/darkness/light/right-behind-you gameplay ideas that made TDD stand out) if they're gonna put their name on it."
So, what you want? Not the same game but the same things? Make up your minds first?
Not all horror needs to be about the adrenaline rush of a monster chasing you down. Pigs used those moments rarely but effectively. Instead though it filled the game with psychological mind tricks and disturbing details through the story. It always had the feeling that something was off as it went from shifting objects such as stuffed owls and pig masks while you weren't looking, all the way up to doorways and entire halls.
It's like saying Silent Hill 2 was a terrible horror game because it made its enemies easy to walk right past outside of a few instances. Some people did actually complain back then that it wasn't as scary as the first - but now it's widely considered a classic. Because there is more to it than just the thrills of a monster chase. And I think that applies to Pigs just as well, hell even the first Amnesia but sadly not that many people look past the surface in that game.
I bet Soma will be more like Machine than Dark Descent (they said that where what Dark Descent should be from beginning) but majority will be "Great games Finally!" because Frictional did it.
Who are the fanboys out there?
*Hello? Hello? Nobody's there?*
So what's your point? I still don't get, sorry.
You feel entitled to lost time on a forum of a game you hate for the sake of it, instead of moving on something more in your likes and money worth?
