Unplayable Still... After Over Half of a Year?!
Seriously, what the hell? I just got done playing the original Amnesia recently, and against mixed reviews, I really wanted to play this game. I see that it's been out since September and people were complaining about playability, stuttering, and all sorts of issues.

I just spent about 45 minutes just trying every kind of setting in the game, turning off anything complex, editing the config files themselves, running in compatability with Windows 7, changing settings in my NVIDIA control panel, EVERYTHING.

And the game is still unplayable. I'm taking just a couple of steps and I go from 60 FPS to a complete screen halt (and like 5 FPS) then up to like 30-something, then back up to 60. Rinse, repeat, ad infinitum.

It really makes the damn game unplayable and more than ♥♥♥♥es me off to find that the game has been like that since release for many people. They still haven't gotten their ♥♥♥♥ together?

I partly need to vent anger here, but really, nobody has any real solutions that work. That's ridiculous.

Okay, I legitimately don't know what just happened. But I completely deleted my profile in the game. I left the settings in my NVIDIA control panel as such:
1) Use VSync.
2) Use maximum performance always (in the power saving settings).
3) Use triple buffering.

I had the game re-detect my settings, but left the game's VSync and Adaptive VSync settings off. Then I started the game anew.

While not free of issues, the game hasn't dropped down to 10 FPS or anything since I started, and I've gotten further than I was in those 45+ minutes. But the FPS is between 30 - 35 usually... *Knock on wood*

Just for comparitive purposes I've been playing this game of Linux for a while now and not experienced this type of issue.

Given the Linux code was probably ported from the Windows code this is a good sign for you, as it means the issue likely lies in config. It's probably one small item somewhere that needs switching on or off.

I hope you find a solution soon at any rate.

Yeah, I was in a bit of a rage last night... but I edited my post last night as well as it appears the problem magically fixed itself (even though I had previously tried the config that it uses).

However, I've yet to turn the game on for a second time, so I don't know if it is consistent. I'll see in a minute!

Ah, good news mate! Yeah, don't worry about it - these things put me in a rage when they happen to me too.

this game opens up a wierd text box that there is no way safe to accept
(else you have not read the text)
