Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs

Can you play this before Dark Descent?
I've never played either, but for some stupid reason I'm having issues with Dark Descent and I can't play it, but I can play Machine for Pigs just fine. So, should I wait until I fix the problem with Dark Descent so I can play that first? Or can I start with this one and not miss anything?

There are certain items and locations that are mentioned in Machine for Pigs which are related to Amnesia: The Dark Descent. By playing the games in order, you'd have a (slightly) better understanding of what's going on in the plot, but not by much. Things are left pretty vague in both games, so I wouldn't worry about running into confusing plot details. The stories in each game can stand on their own.

You'll miss nothing, there are only a couple of vague references to Brannenburg in a note, nothing more. An easter egg i say, not a real reference. it isn't at all a sequel.

Yeah if that was the case, youde have a tad bit more games to play than just Dark Descent. Like for example, the Penumbra series.

I've played both Amnesia games and didn't think they were anything at all alike, other than those few references, but they had nothing to do with the stories. Meaning the order played isn't a big deal.

Penumbra is different. Best played in order...that's my opinion, anyway.

If you play this game 2nd you'll still barely understand what's happening without close inspection. However, this game should be played first if you had a choice because it is less intense in the fear factor, so you'll be warmed up for the 2nd one. If you play this one second, you'll likely be let down like so many have.
