New to thief

I noticed a lot of the neg reviews were from people who played the original. As someone who hasn't I could care less honestly (though I may pick it up later just because I'm told its a classic). My question is if I haven't played the original and care little about comparing the two does this game hold up? Deciding whether or not to buy it

Thief (2014) stands on its own okay. For me, a few glitches kept this one to a 7/10. Overall, I enjoyed it.

thief the dark project was something new and inovative and for the people who played the impact was tremendous,Its not that it had better graphics or gameplay,it was the first thats for some people the reason.

This game does stand on it own as cyberwiz97 says. It does have some small glitches that will irk those looking for a perfect playthrough, but nothing game-breaking in my opinion. The game is fun and has replayability.

it matters what you perfer in a game...this game has interactive cutscenes, qte`s in which are alot of fun. it kind of reminds me of resident evil 4 in a way. the game is alittle linear here and there but is a blast to play. it has many options to turn off all hand holding to make the game even harder....all in all, the game has a ton of content, a nice story, and graphics and voice acting is superb...if you like action adventure gamees with stealth and rpg elements...give it a try...its a funtime...also play it with a controller, you will have a much better experience.

btw if you listen to all the noise in this world and let that rule you, you might as well sit in the closet and do nothing...lol

Nope, it is simply not a thief game but moreso a game about murder and killing, the more you play the less looting and stealing matters which is odd considering its called thief.

Most of the positive reviews call us fans of the originals whiners or some such nonsense and claim we should put up with the new murder everything gameplay/ loot is worthless now feelings, yet imagine another franchise like say dark souls but the devs suddenly decided to "Change the game" so the my little pony audience could enjoy it, and to us that is what they did to thief.

oh my...hilarious...so it would be better for you to only take one trophy prize other then have fun looking for loot everywhere...so boring....now lets talk about what`s cheaply made and has less assets...thief tdp and ma were full of that...no items,less of everything except color...so bright it blindeed you, midi sound effects and stickmen animations...great job letting me remember why i love to game in 2016 and not in 1999

Sadly, I think you missed the point of the game. Thief encourages stealing by awarding bonuses if you get 100% loot and collectables. And, the more you play the more you want to keep getting all that stuff. Choosing to play as Ghost, with no kills, no knockouts, no suspicions, no alarms, all loot and collectables is a challenge, espeically when try ing for 100% Ghost in each chapter. Thief may have its problems but, it's definately a thieving game.

Of course, you can kill and murder your way through it but, If you wish to play as Predator, then the only reason for stealing is to re-supply your ammo, etc. So, in that vein, you're right ... stealing becomes less important. But, for the life of me, I really don't think Thief was meant to be played as a run n gun. jmo

@OP If you try to like this new Thief game then don't play the old ones, so that you don't get a bitter taste in your mouth. Most positive reviews came from people who never played the old ones. I recommend to get the classics if you want to try them out however, it's a piece of stealth games history.
