Is the game worth it?
Me and a friend of mine want to play this together co-op. I heard from another friend who played the open beta saying it was "repetitive". Is this game any good?

It's crap and repetitive.

Surprisingly you're not the first to ask this:

The game tends to be extremely repetitive. All levels are similar (except of size and look of the tilesets), all enemies are similar over all levels - every single play through is the exact same because the levels are static. Only the bosses are different..

The only hope for this problem so far is good custom maps.

I regret spending my $8 on it, but it's alright. Pretty repetitive.

Insanely repetitive, gets boring and old quick. I thought it'd have basic rougelike mechanics (like randomly generated dungeons, more classes, attacks and actual loot (gear, weapon types, buffs, rare drops, etc.) and not just coins, mana, food) but sadly it's just nothing but smashing boxes and picking up coins. The levels and enemies are all similar, it's just too static and repetitive. Very bland. Sad too because this game has so much potential.

TL;DR - In my opinion, no, it's not worth it.

I had a lot of fun playing local co-op.
Maybe alone could be boring but with friends is completely immersive :)

it has a lot of potential still with the editor, people are just slow on the uptake and the main forums arnt that active.

The game is fun, but it has a lot of issues:

1.) A broken multiplayer save function. There are work-arounds, but they don't always work for everyone. Some people have been able to reconnect to a previously saved game owned by the online 'host' player by either 1. 'Joining' the game via Steam or 2. connecting to the game's host by using their IP address. Unfortunately, these methods don't seem to work for a lot of people. There's a thread about this problem in General Discussions and on various gaming boards on the internet. This is not isolated to just a few gamers.

2.) Client crashing - the client crashes at random times regardless of how many times you reinstall the game. Some gamers say they have no problems, and trolls like to say, "It's yer 'puter dood!', but I call it shoddy programming.

3.) This really belongs with the first issue mentioned, but the game becomes rather redundant via multiplayer if you can't rejoin a previously saved game. Unless you devot an entire day playing Hammerwatch, you won't get very far.

Just my 2 cents worth. It's a great single-player game as it stands in its current state. But until the developer decides to fix the broken multiplayer feature, Hammerwatch falls flat on its face.

my freind gifted it to me and im glad he did! this game is a lot of fun!
This game is extremely fun if you like(d) Gauntlet and that series of games, it is not a roguelike, so yes if you're expecting a roguelike you'll be disappointed. It obviously can get repetitive, just like Gauntlet Legends was for the N64. But the keyboard controls are great and fluid, they give you plenty of lives, and there aren't any stupid secrets you can't unlock due to using a key in the wrong door or somesuch.

Good fun single player, I've yet to play multiplayer but I can imagine it would be pretty fun as well, except for the broken multiplayer save that's been mentioned by others.

As a cheapass I try not to buy games at full price, but I would say it's worth 9.99$

While I would fully agree that single player would be too repetitive, and that the issues people have playing multiplayer at multiple sites could be frustrating, I have thoroughly enjoyed this as a local multiplayer game. Two or more people doing couch coop eliminates the saving issue (in our experience), and the addition of friends makes the challenges more fun.
