Controls are SUCK!
Great game, but controls are totally terrible! Game from keyboard are so bad (( Why not mouse aiming?? Look at Diablo or at least at Binding of Isaac. I want to move with keyboard or mouse and attack with mouse. First skill on RMB other on keyboard. Its ideal scheme many times used in all action-slashing-RPGs! Why Hammerwatch devs ignoring it??

Dear developers - do you have any plans to improve the management scheme and in addition to the existing settings, add mouse support?

Switch to a controller, it really ads to the retro feel too.

man, i dont WANT and dont HAVE controller. i want mouse support as in ALL other great action-RPGs. Look at Torchlight at Diablo.
Shustrik Aug 13, 2013 @ 8:19am
all i (and i am sure many others) want settings to change controls to what i want. You like it as is? Ок! But i need options to make more torchlight-diablo style.

And I want a singing lion attached to a rocket made of bacon. Learn to adjust. Games controls are not that hard. I'm sorry, they're 2nd grade.

Well if you want to play games like torchlight and diablo, why not play those games? This game is great, and if you look at the original Gauntlet game, you'll see where this game fits in.

I love this game on keyboard or gamepad. <3

Calm down. It's obviously not that type of hack and slash game.
Juschlan Aug 13, 2013 @ 8:38am
I can play good with the controls. Even better than with a controller.

The problem is that a keyboard can only really use 4 directions without problems, this game uses 8 way aiming.
Ther is an option to disable the 8 way directional aiming and have it flow with the analog controler, i found it kinda helps a bit, but then i love it as it is, reminds me alot of the old arcade clasic "Guantlet" if your too young to remember that one, just step of giving this one any sort of negative remarks! =oD

Holy crap, guys. He only wants some control tweaks and you jump his jock? This wouldn't be hard to implement and would make a lot of people happy. The more people that are happy, the more this game sells. Thus, more custom content and support for the developers.

Would that really hurt any of you? God forbid people make suggestions, aye?

EDIT: Although, OP. If you really want something done, you'll never get it by stomping your feet the way you did in your post. More specifically your title and first paragraph. You'd do well learning what tact is.

He could have started off a LOT better if all he wanted was to make a suggestion. He jumped off the crazy truck instead, full on sailor rage.

Regardless, the game functions like Zelda (Nes / Snes ) , Anodyne, Retro City Rampage, etc.

It doesnt use point and click, because those games didnt.
It doesnt use mouse aiming, because those games didnt.
Its controls dont "suck", because those games didnt.

I seriously cant understand how people keep refrencing diablo and the like for this game. The only part of this game that resembles a isometric hack n slash like diablo is that its a game, and its a top down view. Thats even a stretch, because those kind of hack n slash games used a different type of viewing angle to promote a 3d environment, or hey, played in a 3d environment.

Could they arbitrarily add mouse support for a game that uses 8 directional shooting? Sure, if you are that obsessed with needing your other hand on a mouse, instead of a keyboard.

Can keyboards do 8 directional shooting? Sure can. Its called holding down 2 buttons at once.

Will the game turn into Binding of Issac, Diablo 2, Renegade Ops, Dungeon Siege 3, Balders Gate, Cube World, etc. when they add mouse support? No...no it will not.

Will they be just as or even more annoyed with the controls if they add mouse support and find out it still doesnt play like they absolutely need the game to? Im willing to take bets, with good odds.

Man, how did we ever play video games without a mouse, madness! Its crazy how fanatical people are about having that mouse support. Its like they cannot imagine that games can be built for the purpose of using other imputs. "No NO NO, PC must have full unquestionable keyboard mouse support. I need to be able to do 360 no scopes with the flick of a wrist in any game."

But really, when the conversation starts with "Controls are SUCK" , just what kind of discussion are we really having here?

Edit: Noticed you made an edit to your post as I was typing out my response. Thanks for aknowledging he was a bit more than suggesting a change :)

I love this attitude that adding a completely new control scheme to the game would be such an easy thing to do. Well, if it's so easy why don't you just hack it in?

Changing or adding a control scheme to a game isn't trivial. You will be doing everything from adding new potential bugs and hardware compatibility issues to running over pretty much every aspect of game balance.

Instead of being childishly entitled, why not make a little effort to meet a game on its own terms? It's a simple skillset to pick up, this isn't neurosurgery. You could even find it rewarding.

You CAN change the controls.
Try looking in the options before posting a rage thread.

I actually didn't want to read any comments here. How can the hotkeys in Hammewatch be so bad? Can you tell me how they bind it?
And there is most probably a kinda configuration file in either the Game directory or %appdata% (Windows) in the folder used by this game in which you can set your own key mapping. I mean there is no game the key mapping isn't saved anywhere.

By default (for keyboard) movement is set to WASD and your abilities are on the arrow keys.
You do not use the mouse.
Which is FINE. You dont need the mouse.
If you open the menu and go to options (which the OP does not seem to have done) you can rebind your keys to your liking.
You may not be able to bind to the mouse (havent tried, because, honestly, you dont need to), but you can customize to your liking.
