Patch Notes for 1.22 (April 2014)
So we've been working on adding a new class and also fixing the problems people are having with firewalls and opening ports. The game will try to use Steam networking to go through firewalls when joining games through the server browser or when right clicking on a friend and selecting join game, if either the client or host are not using Steam the game will fall back to the old networking model.

Misc:
  • Added thief class
  • Changed the HUD
  • Added custom mouse cursor
  • Added click sound to buttons in the menu
  • Wizards flame spray now goes through enemies
  • Wizards ice nova no longer has a cast time
  • Wizard flame spray and meteor strike improved

Technical:
  • Now using Steam networking when possible
  • Tweaked game scale for certain resolutions
  • Enemies can now walk through each other when walking at different speeds
  • Strafing now properly netsynced
  • Fized freeze crash when failing to connect to a game

Editor features:
  • Added composite skills 'ground-hit', 'explode'
  • Added passive composite skills 'drop', 'retaliate', 'armor'
  • Custom buffs can now drain mana
  • Custom buffs can now heal enemies

Edit:
Just added a small fix for typing on Macs.

It wont let me start the game with v 1.22. It says it downloads and updates something new, but the game still starts in 1.21. Im on OSX

Musikhasse, have you tried reinstalling the game?
An alternative option would be to verify the game cache from the game properties in Steam.

Keppler: Thank you for the answer! I reinstalled it maybe 6-7 times, no go. But it worked once i verifyied the game cache. Great update devs!

I noticed a couple prefabs in the doodad list in the editor and was interested in what they do so I put one on a new map and tried running it. causes a crash that will prevent me from ever opening the debug hammerwatch. I had to delete all local content and redownload to make it work again. I double checked it after the fresh install to make sure I didnt change something that caused the crash. It crashed again. What are those prefabs used for?

Hmm, what are those prefabs called? And did it actually make the entire game crash and force a reinstall?

I tried everything called prefab in the steam-version of the game and nothing crashed are you sure it was because of them?

The new thief class is really fun to play, but what's new about the HUD? I don't notice any difference.

I've tried the thief on hard and by the third floor (where I lost my last life) I still had no skills at all (no money) and below 400 coins in my pocket. Why does he use money (and mana) for shooting arrows? And why more than I can find? Come on.

Maybe I missed something in the documentation OH WAIT THERE NEVER WAS ANY!

The only change in HUD I can see is how the potion is now on the same box as my hero which is actually a change for worse.

The way you get money for the thief is by killing things in melee with his passive from the defense vendor.

I agree that it's a silly design decision for a game like Hammerwatch (it's a neat idea - it just doesn't turn out to work so well), but the intention is clearly to use Steal to fuel your abilities.

you are just to bad in playing with the thief.. the concept is really good and worked well for me so....

Well hipshot I tried the same prefab dodats and now none of them crash my game, although I don't understand how to use them yet. I came across another problem in which I tried using the random script and then the game crashed. After deleting local content through steam it crashed again and then I moved the gamelog, errorlog, the editor log files and tried again and it worked. Unlike last time I saved the files and here they are with the level files. I put them back in the folder and tried again and they worked so I don't know what happened but hopefully the files shed some light on it for you.
