I get this on Windows 7
Thanks for a reply!
You may not be experiencing the same issue I have in the past but you should be wary of it.
Check that your card is being detected in device manager and in BIOS.
If it's not there, a restart MAY help. Also note some games may run without warning you that the card is not detected. This means they are running on your onboard card, so be wary of that!
The problem was initially intermittent for me, but it got to a point where the card was permanently undetectable. I have warranty so Dell techs came and replaced the graphics card twice before it would work. I've had this problem twice since then (over the course of 2 months) but restarting has fixed it. If it happens again, by the looks of thing the next solution is to replace the motherboard, then if that doesn't work, replace the entire laptop.
It's an issue with particular motherboards and graphics cards not working well together, apparently.
This may not be your problem, but be very wary of it. Also be wary of advice to reformat, because it won't resolve your issue.
Good luck.
EDIT: Dell released a BIOS update for Alienware users which fixed the issue for some but not all. So also check if your motherboard manufacturer has any BIOS updates and try flashing the BIOS
