What kind of country is Arstotzka?
Some people argue it's a Communist State, others argue a Fascist State, and others argue a National Socialist state. Can someone here clarify to me what exactly it is?

minor note, national socialist = na-zi, but i guess you just mean socialist. never having played the game, i feel i'm probably correct in saying it's basis is what was called in my day the eastern bloc countries, basically struggling post-soviet dictatorsihps. probably more communist influence if thats the case, but then, i have absolutely no idea what im talking about.

I am aware National Socialist means Nazi. But Nazism is different from Fascism, incase that's why you were mentioning it.

There is no way to really know the political ideology of any of the countries in the game. There's never any point where they explain their social and economic policy in any detail. The style of the game would appear to me eastern European. The vast majority of people who come through your checkpoints have names that are or are would appear to be influenced by names found in countries where Balto-Slavic languages are spoken (Russian, Belarusian, Polish, Czech, Serbo-Croatian, etc.) But of course that means next to nothing either. Papers Please just does not take place in the real world. You can see influences from the real world but nothing definitive.

I got the assumption of Communism by the labour lottery and the fact that a border patrol guard and a border control inspector (Or whatever you call it) get the same pay

Hm. May be valid evidence.

Obviously is a parody of the old communist EAST GERMANY

East Gresting is East Berlin (and logically neighbor of a West Grestin like the cold war Berlin), and the checkpoint a parody of the old called Check Point Charlie

Im an not sure but I think there are other countries in the game that are parody of US, UK and others, we just must check the parodies and analogies.

There really is little difference between the two to be honest. One has an oligarchy and the other has a central leader, but in the end they both exercise the same policies.

One is more of a mix of both left and right wing. The other is just right wing.

Arstozka = Union of Socailist Soviet Republics, United Federation = USA, ( evidance seen in son's drawing when he call's them:"Fancy western pigs"), Obristan = Ukraine, Kolechia ( thats correct right? ) = West Germany.

I dunno, having been through the border checks in the USA and the fact that you must pay for medicine (hardly socialist), I'd say it's closer to the USA.

You have just been selected for a random information audit. Do not make any attempt to leave the country. There is nothing to fear. Work hard.

Arstotzka is to me a 1980s Kyrgyzstan (former Soviet Republic).
  • Kolechia: Bulgaria
  • Antegria: Italy
  • Republia: Germany
  • United Federation: United Kingdom
  • Obristan: Scandinavia (Finland, Sweden, and Denmark)
  • Impor: Japan
That's just my personal view on it. What matters is the thinly veiled propoganda and human oppression that result as a direct product of the borders of Artstotzka. The country's internal policies have fairly little relevance as most other countries have similar issues with politics and economics overall. The people in the game are oppressed based on the color of their passports and not on their actual ideologies.

Antegria is Romania, I met someone with the name "Maria Popescu". That's a romanian name, and I do live in Romania btw.

It's supposed to be an emulation of the German Democratic Republic, or East Germany. How do I know this? The East/West Grestlin thing gives it away. The border there was sealed off for about 40 years and in-game it says the Arstotzkan/Kolechian border was sealed off. However, overall I'd say Arstotzka is more fascist than communist. I have studied both ideologies extensively.
