Actually now that I have the DLC too. Should I play the vanilla game for some time first? It seems to be a content update and possibly throws it all in from the get go.

Just play the game with the DLC, no worries. Ignore the hamlet buildings for your first playthrough and play with greek and norse. You should be fine.

It's a fun game; though the scoring mechanism is ... unbalanced.

I don't think how I'll ever surpass the score I got by building that new victory condidion building (culture and sunstone required), without doing that again.
