We've thought about it, but, we were never able to come up with a ruleset that we liked. The game is designed around one player balancing both sides, and with PVP, it's hard to imagine a fair ruleset without completely changing some aspects of the game. If you think of a fair ruleset, let us know.

Probably too much work but you could have one player control the red/blue factions and one player have control over bandits and woe events

What about perhaps one player controls one town each and just try to murder eachother? No idea how it would actually play out; like if it would be too easy to steamroll early. But you can sort of do this anyway by just only tending to 1 town each.

agree, like a standard rts but in turn base. we handle one town each with choice of faction and then battle each other out like how the game normally works.

The problem with that model is that in a classic RTS, the sides are designed intentionally to be balanced. In this game, they aren't balanced. In fact, we designed them to be imbalanced. To go through and design all the units with balance in mind would basically be like making an entire new game.

u dont have to balance the game to the extreme? i hate playing balanced games.
As long as they have their unique traits and some way to kill the opponent will do.
hmm i do not know yr contraints as i have not figure out much how to play this game well.
maybe shall wait for more ideas from others

maybe a co-op where each player controls a faction and they need to reach a goal (maybe it is random maybe it will be selected by players, whatever you choose) and the goal would be something that must be achieved by peace and prosperity, means you will have to make a wealthy faction while convincing them not to fight the other faction, since if they do, both factions will be hurt.

I think most imballance is fairly well countered with the stupid AI, doesn't matter how many x100 dmg & hp tokens you place or 1ap-attack tokens, if they just don't feel like picking them up they're useless. and even then, just hold out until you can turn the enemy super unit against them and it's alright.
