Second, did you even try the demo before buying it? If you didn't, well that's your own fault...
You say you've only played a few turns. Well, it is in the nature of the game to have a slow start. You are forging two civilisations who will later come to war. In your first few turns you're still setting up your first town, garnering resources and trying to pump out some units.
Trust me, once you're well into the game, in 50 turns or some such and you have six, maybe seven towns per side all clamouring for space on one small board, each spewing out units, then you get the fun. That's when you're desperately clinging on to try and keep some balance in the war.
Please, instead of just abandoning the game, play a whole game first. Play a few, just play until you win one. Because the satisfaction you get knowing the war you caused yet you kept it under control is fabulous. What's so great about the game? The unique-ness of it. The colossal scale of the wars. The varied-ness between each game. You've got to invest in the game to enjoy it.
However, it DOES still take a few turns to get going.... because it NEEDS to. The player needs to have time to get their first couple of towns up and running, and believe me, on higher difficulties this isnt always so simple, particularly when the game is already throwing bandits and other forms of pain at you. Once you've got a couple of towns up, and the bandits have appeared, and the woes are in full flow.... then things get interesting. And really, this doesnt actually take very long to happen. It actually takes LONGER in games like Civ to reach the "interesting" parts where the strategy bits really kick in.
Also.... you REALLY have to be playing on a higher difficulty for this game for it to remain interesting. If you're playing on the lower ones.... it's not going to get all that exciting, because there simply wont be much threat from most things, and the game wont be trying as hard to screw up your balance between the two sides.
Seriously though, this IS a turn-based strategy game, and it's one with the "short turns" idea.... if you're only playing a few turns and declaring it boring, you're doing it wrong, or the game just isnt for you.
Lol. This. Totally this.
