Unity asset store.
I'm confused as to whether or not I can use free assets in my game.

There are free substances on the asset store in unity, which could be included in a game, which could be sold. So if I do this without buying the software, I haven't broken any agreement. However, if I buy the software (nc version) and do this I'm in violation of a contract.

Can I use a free substance in a game?
Can I use an nc created asset for a game if I don't ship the asset with it?
If I can use the asset store substances that are free, then can't I use the nc created assets as well?
Is the asset compiled when unity builds?

You can use the free substances from the asset store in production, no worries (Allegorithmic gave them away). However, you cannot use substances created with Substance Designer NC for a commercial product, except to resell item on the Steam Workshop.
