Is what this player doing ok?
[Removed Profile -Tats]

He grabs the suviors in extraction on normal and never turns them in , they never run out of ammo and can shoot from amile away. Farms ppl till they are roaches or leave most leave.

Is this how extrction is to be played? Not naming or shaming anyone here just wondering if this is ok to do?

There's nothing really wrong with what that player is doing. If anything try and give feedback on the NPC's in extraction to adjust them to make them fair for everyone.

Personally I don't play extraction because the NPC's in general are unfun to play with. They're clumsy, get in the way, and with the recent change to NPC's having weapons they just take too much of the experience away. Overall the weapons seemed like a way to fix the fact that they just get in the way. This is why I can sympathize with what the player may have been doing but honestly I'd do the same thing as it seems to be a valid strategy. Get rid of the competition and complete the objectives easier. If the NPC's make it incredibly easy to do then so be it. Although in my honest opinion you should probably record a video of someone doing this so everyone can understand the situation better.

By the way it's pretty contradictive to claim you're not name shaming anyone yet you link the players apparent profile.

Extraction mode was used to be harder and Survivors AI had no weapons in earlier versions. The main point was(in my guess) is hold out in house until help arrives, which means: You have to barricade doors\windows, work together and keep these surviovrs AI safe.

Nowadays, players keep taking every survivor AI with them, moving into alley and "destroying" everything. For some players its alright, for some not.

People who take the survivors onto the roof or just walk them around the streets are extremely annoying and ruin the game for most other people who actually want to hold out and have fun, not just win. Hopefully they make it so you can't just waltz off with the survivors and let them do all the work, it's ridiculously boring and takes away from the experience.

I guess it's not cheating but I'd call it unfair. Most of the people who do this anyway only get fun out of 'winning'. They don't care about the experience as they're playing, only that ego boost at the end because they have 'won'.

Not shaming him I have ran into him atleast 5 times I can't do a video so Im sure others have played with him linkin his name was just a way for ppl to know the play style I am talking about.

As far as a strategy I have never seen him turn the surviors in , and don't think he has plans to.

Yeah, there is a strategy to doing it by just staying in the house but people spend too much time just looting and then the zombies break in and it's GG. People always forget the key ingredient: Teamwork.

The "non-roleplaying" tactics people use may be fine with the developers but its not the way I want to play the game. Which is why I stopped. When I say "fine with the developers" I mean theyve designed it and left it open for people to interpret and play the game that way. While I have no issue with people playing that way... they may as well just play solo ffs.

Since the game doesn't force you to stay in a house and hunker down (I wish it did), most people don't do it, which kind of stinks. They grab the survivors and run--because the tactic simply works better.

I agree, though, that it's MUCH more fun to barricade the house and stay and fight off the zombies movie-style, but one of the big problems with that in Contagion (especially if you only have a couple of people with you), is the fact that almost as soon as you get inside, the zombies descend, giving you hardly any time to barricade, so it just feels rather pointless to do (not to mention the fact that they break through barricades in this game waaaay too quickly).

Want to make Extraction more fun? Force players to hold out (at least for a bit) inside the house. And give players a longer window for the barricading phase (and make that window length scale to the amount of players playing...so if there's only 2 or 3, which I see happen a lot...they get a bit more time to do it). Make defending the house and barricading necessary for the mode, and it will be more fun, IMO.

There should be an auto fail if you stray too far from the house or at least a warning timer of the auto fail. For example if you leave the house once you have to hold it a warning will pop up that tells you that you are straying too far from the objective. If you ignore then the mission fails.

There are a number of tweaks planned for AI Survivors. We will get to em :)

So Survivors will become more like civilians rather than highly trained spec ops members being dragged out of retirement by the player characters. :P

the problem with the houses is that they are cramped death traps. You can keep the horde at bay more effectively by sitting in the street with your team and "circling the wagons"; You have virtually no chance of being cornered if you have even a modicum of teamwork. The houses need to be more viable whilst also not making them nuclear bunkers.

The most successful extraction runs I have seen typically involve everyone running into the house, looting it, fetching the survivors and then meeting in the street to kill zombies.

The amount of time given to setup as well as the supplies you're given (Depending on players) doesn't really make it viable to stay indoors at all as opposed to just leaving the house and roaming the streets. Not to mention the NPC's don't do well at all in closed quarters and will most of the time be the cause of your loss and not because you died on your own.

If I had to change anything about extraction it would be the following

  • All loot is within one or two rooms as if it's been gathered by the current NPC's
  • Once inside the house no one is allowed to leave
  • NPC's move on their own from room to room once you begin the round to defend themselves
  • Slightly increase the time given to prepare such as barricading OR do not start round until speaking to a survivor

Again this list varies but I overall do not enjoy the gamemode because the best strategy is walking outside mostly because the NPC's interfere too much and require too much babysitting even when they have weapons. Honestly they didn't need weapons they just need to stop standing in one spot like an afk player.
