Outlast VS. Amnesia: The Dark Decent
any great horror fan playing this game would have surely played Amnesia: The Dark Decent, now which is scarier, and which is better?

both are great but i find amnesia scarier and better.

outlast is more about those cheap jump scares and stuff that makes your stomach turn xD

Amnesia by far! Best horror game! They did amazing with Penumbra, then made it 100x better by taking away weapons and all! Mainly got Outlast to hold me over until Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs. It is pretty good though, but AAMFP will most likely be better.

you like it because it is different to all the other games youre used to play hahah

why dont you give Cry of Fear on steam a go? its free too

huntsman which is coming out soon seems looks interting, might be worth a check. Other than that the new amnesia coming out next week

Amnesia was really scary but I didnt enjoy it as much as I enjoyed this. With Amnesia I took breaks every once in a while and didnt finish it because I didnt feel like continuing whereas with this I couldnt stop playing even though I was screaming through the whole thing.

The only trouble with amnesia were the often tedious objectives. Collecting things off shelves in dark rooms that all look the same got old fast. It's horror elements are the best to date though.

Outlast is more realistic and immersive than Amnesia, i dont remember full body awareness with fully animated actions in amnesia.
However gameplay with physics seems better in amnesia since you can manipulate a lot of objects, but unfortunatelly without any kind of animation.

At same time Outlast gameplay feels more natural, because of clear goals and objectives and more realistic actions of characters to achieve these goals, while Amnesia it too abstract and messy, but this abstractness and mess of amnesia adds some points to its tension and scariness.

Neither perfect, but both very good, merge them together and would be much better.
However i prefer realism and immersion more than anything else, and in this case Outlast is the winner.

With any luck, Machine for pigs will be the one that merges the best of both :)

They made cry of fear a stand alone game, so no need to have half life

Well, while playing Amnesia, I wasn't that scared all along. Of course there were some moments that made me jump, but after an hour or so, it went old, and I felt a bit frustrated because of finding the way, gatehring clues and etc. While playing Outlast, it feels so intense and nervous. The gameplay itself of these two aren't that different; collect something, go somewhere, turn off/on things. The reason why I feel Outlast more scary is mainly because of the premise of the game. Amnesia takes place in 1800's and that keeps me from immersing into the game I guess. Still, both of them are good horror games.
