Oh sweet baby Jesus! Why do I hear monkeys? And why are there so MANY?!?
An oldie but a goodie. Yes this game shows its age in the dated graphics, but the story and gameplay are solid. A magnificent blend of FPS, survival horror, with RPG elements thrown in for good measure. You start the game as a raw recruit. Add some basic and advanced training tactics and then choose your path to glory.......glory of the MANY!
I won't ruin the story. There is misdirection and subterfuge abound, a mentally unhinged protagonist/antagonist, monkeys, ghosts, ninjas, and true love. And it's in SPACE!!! Who doesn't like killing stuff in SPACE?
Precursor to the Bioshock series (which were considered to be the "spiritual"successors to this very game.) The controls take some getting used to, since this game released more than 15 years ago. It's challenging. Ammo is scarce as are nanites. Enemies require specialized ammo. Limited inventory space necessitates the need to constantly evaluate what to keep.
The sound effects are the best part of this game and will constantly having you wiping your sweaty palms on your pants every time. There are some jump scares, but mainly the stage is set through the sound. Will you run in fear or take the fight to them?
