As much as I absolutely love this game, I'm going to try not to circlejerk about it, because it truly isn't for everyone. For one, it's damned frustrating and very difficult and takes quite a bit of patience, even on its easier difficulties, so if you're one to easily get put on tilt, this game isn't for you. Also, if you're obsessive over graphics, this game is not for you, because while there are add-ons that improve the graphics, the game still doesn't look nearly as good as modern games, with the one exception maybe being the corridor lighting, which still look fairly good today. System Shock 2 is an incredibly tense and scary experience; the game literally plays with your paranoia, with enemies that you can hear from far away and constant enemy respawn, you will never really feel safe. Unlike other select survival horror titles, the classic System Shock 2 can scare while still having excellent gameplay; it was one of the first titles (if not the first) to effectively merge the first person shooter and rpg genres. Additionally, it has open-world style level design that feels claustrophobic and fresh to this day and for days to come.
Though most would agree that the majority of System Shock 2 is excellent, everybody who has played the full game will know what I am talking about when I say that the end bosses (which I won't spoil) are terrible. The unanimous consensus is generally that the ending is downright awful too; even people who enjoyed the ending (myself included) would tell you that it's only enjoyable because of how terrible and cheap it is.
That being said, what are you waiting for? Go play System Shock 2, but only if you plan on playing it in its entirety, from start to finish.
