Rebellion  [developer] Jun 27 @ 7:51am
UPDATE! (30th June 2014) - Have you had your Sniper Elite 3 Steam key blocked, OR been given a refund?
We have been saddened to learn that some fans have been caught out by companies selling unlicensed or stolen Sniper Elite 3 Steam keys. If you have been affected by this we encourage you to contact the seller in question and seek a refund immediately.

In addition we’re aware that some gamers may have pre-ordered these keys in good faith, believing them to be genuine - missing out on both the game, and the “Target Hitler” DLC pre-order incentive.

In response to this we’d like to offer the “Target Hitler” DLC FREE to all those affected by this.

To be eligible you will have to follow the following instructions by Friday 4th July:

1. Email sniperelite3keys@rebellion.co.uk and include the following information:
- Receipt or proof of purchase from the original (blocked) vendor.
- The original (blocked) Steam key you were sent.

2. We’ll process your request and get back to you as soon as we can. Please be patient - this is a manual process and it may take some time!

All the best

Rebellion

- Update -

We appreciate that some people are upset, this is exactly why we wanted to make this offer to gamers who’ve been affected through no fault of their own.

To clarify, one of our PC retail distributors informed us that some of their allotted Steam keys were stolen. We believe these keys were then resold to multiple companies, with no payments going to either Valve or the retail distributor.

Steam were immediately informed and have now revoked that set of keys.

As a developer Rebellion are happy for you to purchase the game anywhere you see fit and support price competition in the PC market - we have in no way targeted any specific vendors (who may have also thought these keys were legitimate), just this one set of keys.

All we can suggest if you have been affected is to please contact your vendor and first ask for a replacement key, and then contact us for the free pre-order DLC if you are successful.

- Update -

We now know that a total of 7050 Sniper Elite 3 keys were compromised. It is only these keys that have been revoked.

To clarify, aside from Steam itself, digital keys for Sniper Elite 3 can be bought from the below list of licensed partners. We can confirm that we have not revoked any keys sent to these companies, nor have they reported any problems to us. This is the full list of companies that get their keys direct from us for digital sale – we do not sell to anyone else.

Good move Rebellion. In my opinion you shouldn't pay for something that's not your fault. People should learn not to trust these resellers.

Whoever is affected by this, make sure everybody knows what can happen when you purchase there.

how do i find my new steam key now that i bought it from the store....also i got it from instant-gaming so, yh, don't go near those guys ever again

I've now been stung twice on your game, the second time I was assured the key was genuine. I supported your company but doing this so that only Steam purchases will work for £40 is a joke. We are not consoles, £40 is too high.

This is a horrible thing to spring on fans of the game. Steam is grossly overpriced (£40 for a download? I will only pay £30 tops for a physical copy). I really enjoyed 2 and couldn't wait for 3, would've happily paid £17.99 but no more than that. I guess I won't be buying it now until it's £5 or less after all this hassle.

Didn't realise the company I bought from was "illegitimate" as I've bought numerous downloads and hard copies of games on multiple platforms from them for years.

How does one obtain an unlicensed or stolen key, proceed to sell the key on without anyone noticing until launch? I'm just finding it hard to fathom that digital keys would be stolen to no one's knowledge, especially in this day and age

This is unacceptable. I purchased my key yesterday and it went through without issue. If there is a problem with the key, it should have been stated when I activated the prodcut and not a day later when I was playing it. Also forcing users to purchase a game directly from Steam for an inflated cost and too actually state you have no way of knowing if it's legitimate or not when purchased elsewhere is nothing short of an insult.

Completely agree with you guys, for the game to validate a day before and full pre-load and then be revoked is a joke. How can a 'stolen' product validate in the first place?!

What if I never got my key from my retailer?
henson0115 Jun 27 @ 8:31am
this is obviously a move to make people pay full price, these are not the only 2 sites that have had keys revoked. there are others at a similar price point that have been.. unless rebellion have a ♥♥♥♥ ton ie a few hundred thousand cd keys stolen/brought with stolen details. looks like you need to find a better way to get these keys sorted

I bought my copy through a site that has never had any problems with Steam keys, so I call ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on this. I refuse to pay overcharged Steam price for my games, since it's stupidly expensive here

Such ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, installing game then i get informed you cant trace my payment method, then your trying to make me pay nearlly triplle for it on the steam store.

Well i have had mine pre purchased from siimiplygames for over a month now and last night it was validated only to be greeted by the removed message this morning after the hefty download on my slow connection, a quick email to simply resulted in a return email stating that the supplier had let them down and the money i paid will be refunded.

nevermind i thought as i had never had a problem with simplygames before i shall use another site i have used frequently with no problems, oh hello after playing the game for a hour and logging out for my evening mail i returned to the same your game has been removed message.

Now seriously if these keys were indeed stolen or duplicates why was i able to enter and redeem the keys? surely if they were stolen or duplicates in no way i would be able to redeem them.

i am glad i paid with paypal as if there is a problem with the refund from the second company i can just get my cash back.
