This Capcom gem was remade in high-def by WayForward in 2013, enhancing the visual quality of the 1989 Nintendo classic while retaining all of the Disney magic.
The voice acting is a real treat as the surviving members of the original animated series came back to lend their talents, including Alan Young as Scrooge McDuck and June Foray as my duck-doppelganger Magica De Spell. The 2D hand-drawn characters and 3D modeled levels are gorgeous ~ it’s like you’re watching a cartoon while you’re playing the game! (And you technically are during the cut-scenes.)
Familiar faces abound in this exciting adventure… Scrooge and Magica of course as well as the Beagle Boys, that crusty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Flintheart Glomgold, Huey / Dewey / Louie / Webby, Gyro and Gizmo, Launchpad McQuack, and even Mrs Beakley!
Scrooge sets off from his Money Bin (which I recommend you take a swim in) to adventure in faraway lands and obtain secret treasures. Dodging obstacles and fending off enemies, he pogo-sticks his greedy little tailfeathers through The Amazon, African Mines, The Himalayas, The Moon, Mt Vesuvius, and (my favorite) Transylvania.
Speaking of enemies, the bosses are incredibly awesome and the little ♥♥♥♥♥ who get in your way are obnoxiously cute. I experience nonstop mind-heart-soul explosions whenever Magica busts on the scene and she even conjures up Dracula Duck! (I think I subconsciously kept losing to that boss in Transylvania because I wanted to see more of those two… I love her SO much.)
Anyhoo… I had to use a walk-through a couple times when the mazes became too confusing and I had my boo help with the maddening rope-climbing finale, but overall the experience of the game was pure magic. The 80s nostalgia fueled my fire as I became completely immersed in the visual splendor of Disney animation and the addictive action of platformer gameplay.
I absolutely loved DuckTales Remastered and hope you enjoy playing too!
