Realms of Arkania: Blade of Destiny

Is this game actually release quality?
It's not flagged as early access, but from many of the threads I'm seeing here the game seems to be in a pre-release state still - lots of bugs, UI issues, etc. Can someone provide an unbiased assessment of the current state of this game? I like the TDE system, and I've been considering picking this up off and on, but so far all of the TDE games have had some serious problems - don't want to drop money on this one if it's more of the same.

About current situation:

Currently the game is in beta for patch 1.31 and it is substantially a larger patch then the patches before. Briefly it will have,

-Bug fixes as usual
-Auto-combat at its early stages
-Renewed exteriors of buildings
-Swaying temple banners and shop signs
-Polished graphics with optical effects
-Well-written user contributed events/encounters
-Ship of the Dead
-City encounters
-Extra environmental sounds, such as waves and ocean
-Herb-eating
-Shop opening-closing times(if I remember correct)
-Market days and rumors related to market days
-Repeat last attack button in the combat
-Option to display the health of enemies by description (hurt, wounded etc) or by bars

Update: Currently second round of beta tests will take place, to check whether bugs have been ironed out or not in the first test. Overally things are improving, but if you wish to be on the safe side(meaning minor bugs ticks you a lot), you can wait a bit longer, then decide. (At least for the latest patch)

I wouldn't call it release quality. It still misses a lot of stuff from the original game and are thus a inferior gaming experience

And yeah, frankly it is a bad year for TDE games. I was hopeful of Demonicon but it proved to be shoving all the game down your throat in an excessively linear way. Currently I look at current RoA something between an Early Access and Release where it is closer to Release quality.

Of course we should also remember there is no such thing as "Release quality" because there are small number of games which does not suck at their release ;)

this game is not ready yet

re: "so far all of the TDE games have had some serious problems" that's not true.

Both Drakensang games are pretty much flawless. I've never had any issue with either of them. and tey are excellent 'bioware style' rpgs. Pity the developer is no longer around :(

They are "Bioware style" rpgs, hence they are not truly "TDE style" rpgs ;)

Currently third stage of beta for 1.31 is running on with new graphics, content and bugfixes.

To quote a favourite movie of mine "the physical appearance of the pretty makes no difference" :). It will be some hours, but it is looking good.

Yay! Thanks, Chris! Looking forward!
BTW, while we are on the subject - in the thread next to this we were discussing English language manuals/guides for the game. By any chance, do you guys have any plans on making a really detailed guide describing ins and outs of the game? It would be so awesome... Yeah, I know there is a manual, but it is... lacking, for the lack of better word :D

We are very much aware of that, and I'd like to apologize for it. I'd first suggest to have a closer look at the ingame help (found inside the questbook), there is a lot of stuff explained there. But of course it is missing more details and by definition aims to be introductory and not in-depth information about everything. First we need to get through our final todo for the last bits and pieces remaining to be done on the game, then we'll look into a comprehensive guide in english, promise.

Fantastic! It will be just what the game needs!
Keep up the great work, guys!

the "hours" shouldnt be after release right.........for ppl who paid the full price to preorder it like me do not expect to wait for another year to play the bugs free game :(.....sry for saying in that way but its a fact.....

Besides... you don´t need to look at the bugs, not working features and awful graphics...

the new interpretation of RoA just lacks soul.. only watch the intro.. in the original the story is told with nice graphics and fitting music. This one only has the narrator going about the story with nothing else... and this fits to the whole game.. sad thing.

Even more sad, since the devs at least still try to improve this mess ... which is way beyond saving imo.
