First off, A lot of reviews state that this is a bit like X:COM:
The combat system is turn'n'tile based, but the similarities end there. AI seems very basic and 'battle arenas' seem too small and lacking (although to be fair i've struggled to stick with this game, so combat arenas MAY be more interesting, if you can hack the snails pace) and the whole combat experience leaves me feeling that more could have been done to make it interesting.
Biggest problem is the time it takes to travel anywhere along with the camping system, which comes acrross like micro-management for micro-managements sake with bizzarely some elements being over-complicated and others hugely simplified which makes the whole thing seem half-arsed.
The world and the writing does seem alive and interesting, its just that with the time it takes to do anything it leaves me un-interested due to the endless plodding through needlessly dense micro-management, Which is a huge shame as the travelling is so 'stop/start, stop/start, repeat endlessly' it detracts from the interesting parts of the game, as they are sandwiched between huge glufs of dullness.
Also the vast party of characters you are given to babysit right from commmencing the game just adds to the feeling of shifting through lists and pages, seemingly just because the game designers have decided thats what a RPG is about. But for me, it seems like a dense barrier which stands in the way of any pace the game has.
All in all, a interesting world and great ideas thats unfortunately executed poorly.
Would be great if it wasn't hidden behind a dense, clunky, dull User Interface that for me, kills the experience stone dead.
