Subjugate Papantla

Is there a way of finishing this quest without attacking the town?
I came across slavers on my way there killed them. I talked to the had honcho in papantla and she seemed pleased. Now I can't move forward with the quest unless I attack the town. Thoughts?

Nope. If you want to complete the main storyline you have to get your hands dirty, either way.

Well then you have the option to return to Spain without getting involved in the war :-)

Am I to understand from this that you pretty much have to side with the aztecs?

You can side with the Totonacs if you don't like the Aztecs

But I still have to finish the Subjugate Papantla quest to advance the storyline? I'd have no problem simply failing this particular quest or simply leaving it incomplete.

Subjugate Papantla is in the Aztec storyline (Papantla is a Totonac town). You can also side with the Totonacs, but you'll reach a similar point in the Totonac storyline where you have to attack Cuautitlán to progress. Either way if you want to get involved in the war, you'll have to fight. Makes sense, right?

The only completely peaceful option is to go home without getting involved. Just rebuild the fortress and then go to the port and sail back to Spain :-)
