*SPOILERS* How do I trigger...
the attack on Technotitlan to claim it for the Spanish Crown? I helped the other tribes overthrow the Aztec Empire. The Totonacs are my homeboys. Norriega survived the first chapter, and visited my fortress. The fortress is fully upgraded, I have 500 troops in garrison and I've done pretty much every quest I could find.

The only quests I have are to return home to Spain and a bugged quest to kill the Aztec high priest. I first send the Amazon leader away after having her give my necklace to finish the quest. After I killed the emperor, I visited the camp again and she was back. The conversation was the same that I had after I spend the night at her tent. This time I told her I'd kill the high priest, figuring she might join me still. But I can't enter the temple and the high priest is gone, so the quest is pretty much stuck.

Either way, I seem to recall that Norriega is the one who has to trigger the quest to claim Tenochtitlan after you overthrow the Aztecs and have 500 troops in garrison. When I visit the fortress, he is nowhere to be found. In Tenochtitlan I had no options when talking with the emperor. The port only lets me return home.

On a side note, the only thing I get when I visit the tavern is the tavernkeeper telling me my troops are happy. Isn't there supposed to be some native warrior who will join me from there?

Anyway, if someone could point me in the direction to get to capturing Tenochtitlan, I'd be most grateful.

P.S.: Great game, developers! One of the best games I played this year. I'm eager to see more by your hands.

Eh, anyone?

Am I correct in guessing that you need to have 500 troops at the moment you conquer the Aztecs for you to be able to conquer your allies as well? Because that'd be a bit of a bummer.

Yes that is correct. You have a very narrow window of opportunity to catch your allies while they've let their guard down to celebrate their victory. If you happen to still have a savegame from before you started the siege, you can load it and do some side quests while you wait for your barracks to fill. On a side note, the more buildings you've restored in the fortress, the more soldiers join your barracks every day.

Thanks for the answer. I'm not sure whether I still have a save. I guess I'll replay the whole game some day.

You can always start directly in Mexico and then try allying with the Aztecs instead of the Totonacs, before turning on them :-)

How would that affect my starting party in Mexico? Would I get free experience, for example, to level them up some so I won't find myself outmatched?

Either way, replaying Conquistadors won't be a punishment at all.

Yeah you get a portion of XP corresponding to completion of all storyline quests in Hispaniola plus a few of the side quests, and a limited amount of equipment and other resources.

You'll have to do without Isabela and Lászlo though :-)
