Healing in cities and villages
I think it would be helpful if there was even a single doctor or some sort of cheaper healer somewhere on the map. At the moment if your expedition gets their ♥♥♥ kicked very badly in a combat it is very difficult to get back to your feet because medicine usually costs a lot and herbs can be tough to find. Usually the distances between cities and towns are at least a couple so it wouldn't really even break the game balance or usefulness of doctor expedition members.

Also, because you can only camp in the wilderness, you also need to consume rations or meat just to heal up your expedition members. You should at least be able to stay within the town while you heal up....or well that's just my opinion but it could balance the game a little.

All in all I am enjoying the game a lot, I just wanted to present this small improvement idea in case the developers are still following these discussions. :) Thank you.

It would be a nice feature to have a doctor or shaman somewhere on the map, but honestly, unless you were pretty close, your injured would problbly never even make it.

As for herbs, I found them EVERYWHERE... I always had tons and tons of medicine. Are you sticking to the roads, or going off track every once in a while? Also, look for contextual actions you can do while you camp, sometimes you camp in a herb-rich area and you can gather a lot.

Lastly, make sure you have enough doctors. I brought two, and it was barely enough at some points (sometimes one of the doctors got injured, compounding the problem). I don't think I would've made it with just one.

Btw, don't despair - when you level up a bit, and have a bigger crew, you actually GAIN food and medicine by camping out in the wilderness. My entire crew ate meat pretty much every night. If you hunt the wild pigs, you get 15-25 meat - and it's not uncommon to hunt two in one day. Througout the late-game, I was trading away my surplus food and medicine for luxuries every chance I got.

The truth is - Hispaniola was much harder than Mexico lol!

Thank you for the tips. I guess part of my problem is that recently I've tended to stick mostly to the roads because you can travel further while you are on it. I'm playing the Hispaniola map and got two doctors with me and actually after I wrote this post I have finally managed to somewhat stabilize the situation. :) Apparently the expedition can also withstand hunger quite long...as long as you keep an eye on people's morale and if you have to leave someone without a meal, then make sure that person has enough loyalty left.

Do you remember which areas have the contextual action for gathering extra medicine? I guess that would also be useful. And I guess for food you can always go fishing too. Perhaps with harder difficulty settings + iron man the key to success is in utilizing the contextual actions to your advantage? All in all I guess the most important thing to remember should be that losing is fun and you'll be wiser next time. Or one can wish so. :)

Look for places on the map with lots and lots of flowers, that's where you'll find the contextual events to harvest herbs.

We've been talking about adding the option to camp and heal safely in towns without the risk of random events or having your stuff stolen, but we'll never take away the medicine cost of treatment - that's integral to the whole game system :-)

(And frankly we're not even sure we'll add the option to camp in towns. We're big fans of the so-called "death spiral".)

Thank you for reply Jonas. :) I will have to keep my eyes open for those flower areas. I agree that if the system to heal in towns without the risk of random events is implemented you should still require to consume medicine for it but as you mentioned the risk of losing your rations, materials and valuables while camping and trying to heal up your squad could perhaps be reconsidered. So not too much a cakewalk but not too harsh either would be my suggestion.

Thank you for showing interest towards my feedback, I am enjoying your game a lot and I am looking forward to the future additions in case you have a DLC or something in mind. :)

I kind of agree with this - I was almost caught in this spiral, and it was nerve-wracking to get out of it... has down to a few herbs lol.

Any yes, being able to fully heal, risk-free in town would kind of kill that. Maybe a compromise? Towns can still be dangerous... maybe in town, you'd still have to guard (and maybe even more chances of getting robbed), but you might be able to forego partols, taking some pressure off... maybe something like that? Or just leave it as is - a death-spiraled expedition is a sure way to learn!

The problem with that would be that all the random events for Guard Failure, and all the little fluff bits you get when your stuff gets stolen, assume that you're camping in the wilderness, not resting in a city.

the problem is,i have many injured party members and not enough time to heal them up because of a scripted event that forces me to fight in a couple of rounds. i am stuck with only 2 healthy party members although i have room for 6 for that fight. guess i'll just have to load an old savegame :<

I don't know what to say except keep your medicine stores up. Resource management is integral to this game, and if you could go through the whole game without spending any resources, THAT would be pretty bad design. If you don't keep your medicine stores up, you should not be surprised if you lose some followers to random events. Be prepared, and you'll be fine.
