Music cuts out in campaign, can't figure out how to restart it.
While exploring the first island (Can't pinpoint a direct time I'm afraid, I figured it would fix itself so I didn't pay much attention) I noticed that the ambient sound / music had been disabled. Obviously this is pretty annoying so I attempted to get it going again by saving, returning to the main menu and then going back into the game. This didn't work so I tried restarting the game, once again giving no good outcome.

This only seems to be an issue with any save files past the point where the sound originally cut out, from what I can tell, and new games do contain the music and ambient sound (This does not allow it to play when I load the saved game directly after however).

Has anyone else come across this problem? Is there a way to fix it for my current save or must I start a new game?

What does the audio settings look like during the saves where it got cut out? Also, the music does stop from time to time but should start playing again after a while. It's ambient sounds as well (Jungle animals, ocean, birds, etc), or only the music itself?

This. Also was confused by this at 1st.
That the music stops for a while after the track has ended is intentional, but if it cuts off in the middle, or that even the ambient sounds aren't playing, it's definitely a bug.
The music had definitely cut off for a long while, keeping in this state through camping numerous times and a battle, but I don't think it ended in the middle of the track so perhaps it just went off for a time as you said.
Additionally I was in mountainous terrain for most of the time, perhaps there is no particular ambient sound there?
I'm not sure if it was a bug at this point as I just loaded the game and ran around for 5 minutes and then camped, at which point the music had started playing - So it very easily could be a false positive.
It is quite possible that it is a false positive by the sounds of it, but the missing ambient sound might be a small dead space inbetween the range of two sound emitters. Do you know where exactly it was that you encountered this silence in the mountains?
Generally it was between the coast and the place where you find the corpses of Luisa and her men in the quest "The Medallion" on the Hispaniola region.
